Why is it that when something like this happens, the parents/grandparents always say what a goooood citizen their little offspring is. Never a problem with them, they are the most polite little Scouts, etc. The grandmother should do time just for raising this little creep. No sympathy for the brat. Too bad the shooter has to still live among such trash.

Default Charles Bronson remake or "The Night Chicago Died"

We know the kid was shot in the South Shore, that must have hurt!

Decades of cartoons have ingrained in the public that getting hit on the head with a brick causes little birds to circle overhead and tweet.

That would be a wrong impression.

That brick was a deadly weapon when thrown indescriminately thru the window of a home.

An aside. Nothing to do with the main content of the article but consider some of the media conventions used out of ignorance or intended bias.

Interesting to note the conceded irrelevancies in the article. One instance; knowing someone was shot 'with a gun' was deemed to be sufficient information. Actual age vs the term elderly and the subliminal thoughts that evokes. As we read or listen to media reports we need to become aware of the attitude and bias of the reporters and how it relates to the content.

The term 'gun' becomes a generic figure of speech which serves to make all 'guns' equal. Make all guns equal so that condeming one type of gun condems all guns.

Leading with the kid's age evokes sympathy. A flash comparison sets up a sympathetic 12 yr old vs someone who is 'elderly'. The initial imprication is some dingbat tried to kill or did kill a poor, innocent 12 year yr old kid.

Being shot in the South Shore is a bit of humor I suppose.

At any rate this is another instance of responsible authorities relinquishing their duty to protect forcing inocent people into a survival mode. Much like Arizona vs the Federal government. Both instances have a Chicago connection.

After I read Chicago 12 or 20 I got the same picture in my head. I read once on this forum an Idea to count 50 coming over the Mexican border ,then send a bus of Chicago public school kids to Mexico . Soon they would build a wall and our problem would be solved.

He was only injured - what's the big deal. That's not even a little sad. Hopefully he learned a lesson.

I like to look for subliminal messages in reporting too, but this is veering off into paranoid (Chicago connection?). The age element was what made it a story. If they'd been two 43 year old men it wouldn't have made national news. "Leading with the kid's age evokes sympathy" -- right, to get you to read it. Then it develops the story: it fairly reports the interesting reactions of the neighbors and family of both, not just one. If anything we draw the conclusion that the kid was not just an innocent little 12 year old; we tend to side with the woman, not with him. Good job on a good story.

So true!! I feel bad the old lady missed. Society's got too many of these thugs on the streets. One less won't hurt, it would help.

No doubt the family will sue the old lady, the City of Chicago, and anyone else who witnessed the shooting but didn't intervene.
Thug life, and irresponsibility. Again, I feel sorry she missed.

He failed himself. He should have been doing something else. Now he wants pity? Save it for Big Bubba in cell block 4.

There is a real problem with the younger "entitlement" generations and their inability to be accountable for their own actions.

This little miscreant will unfortunately likely serve his time in juvi and come out a hardend sociopath. Good for granny. Sadly her gun was probably confiscated as it was doubtful she was in compliance of Chicago's prohibitively strict firearms laws and she will be left defensless when this gang of juvis comes back for revenge.

I hope the Socialists approve of the nation of angry, fatherless youth they've created and are holding in poverty via their entitlement policies. No mention of any parents in this article. Typical parasites of society.
