For the first time in more than a decade, the federal government is funding sex education programs that aren't based solely on abstinence.
New sex ed funding ends decade of abstinence-only - Health - Sexual health - msnbc.com

Good to see some progress and finally - some realistic thinking. Telling teenagers to "just say no to sex" is ridiculous.

Let's just turn them all into sex crazed whores because society says it's ok to sleep around whenever you want with whoever you want. The gays will love this type of promiscuity.

Schools have not been teaching abstenence only you know. It is ONE method that they teach. They also teach about STD's and contraceptives. This is a non story.

sex is bad for teenagers not above the age of 17 or 18. Pregnancy will not be good for such youngsters who know next to nothing about life.

It is a story because of something new beginning this school year. But you don't have to comment, multiple times, if you don't think so.

No, it's a very newsworthy story because it has to do with federal funding. It affects all of us.

Schools shouldn't be teaching about sex, period. This is a family responsibility, not the responsibility of nanny federal and state government. Therefore I voted that there shouldn't be any sex ed in schools, period. Schools should only teach, math, reading, science, American history, and American government. Everything else is up to the student and their families. This is why our schools are failing and lagging behind math and science. Too little emphasize on academics, too much emphasize on brainwashing

It's a health and biology issue too. You can't be educated in human biology if you skip the reproductive organs.

Beyond that the schools have taken it up as a social issue since so many kids DON'T get it from home.
