SACRAMENTO, CA (KGO) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a historic health care reform legislation Friday that brought praise from President Obama, who said California lawmakers are taking an important step to help families.
Schwarzenegger signed two bills that create the framework for the California health benefit exchange. It's an online system that promises affordable, quality healthcare for all.
"This exchange will allow consumers and small business to research, compare and purchase health insurance products that best suit their needs," he said.
California now becomes the first state in the nation to implement health care reform required under federal law.
The GOP's surge across the country has put Obamacare in jeopardy, but California's lame-duck Republican governor has nevertheless signed a series of bills that implement key pieces of the federal healthcare reform law. And in so doing, he put California at least part of the way down the path toward comprehensive reform, regardless of what happens to Obamacare.
The problem is that the new healthcare bill has mandates that allow very little choice in coverage and cost.My empolyer insurance is goig upo 18.9% to cover those cost and the employer is payig hald of the rise at that cost to me.Besides that mnay lower income will be put in medicaid with no chioce to keep feral goernamnt subsidies lower and make states pay more.

A similar scenario is taking place at the local levels in CA. For example, it appears that AB 32 (CA cap and trade) will be suspended in the November election (with passage of AB 23 ) so counties are are applying for grants that implement AB 32's policies in spite of passage of AB 23.
I am SO looking forward to the election in November when we can put new supervisors in place!

People are going to move to California to get Health Care...
Once a Communist always a Communist. Let's hope he won't be back in politics any time soon.
I wonder if Arnold got a promise for a state "bail-out" in order to sign this into law? How else is the bankrupt PR Kalifornia going to absorb tens of thousands more people onto their Medicaid rolls?

Universial health care can be driven privatly as done in number of capitalist countries with this kind health care system there is nothing communist about universial health care.
One of the very few in the GOP, who doesn't let party affiliation and ideology, get in the way of common sense.
