No--they'd probably legislate that they only go in the bedrooms of people he suspects of being liberal socialists/communists (I'm starting to love that term, just because it's so RIDICULOUS). The radical right wingers have a long and proud history of protecting their own--you know--proclaiming family values while they hire hookers and stalk young boys. It's the right wing way

Do you really have to wonder about that? I think the answer is obvious. It's the oldest double-standard around.

Geez, he'd probably also like to mandate what clothes they wear. Turtle necks and bonnets, good. Stylish haircut and women in pants, bad.

Female teachers would be required to wear Victorian Era dresses. Exposing an ankle would be grounds for suspension.

Maybe they should have a physical "exam" as part of their annual teacher certification--you know--to ensure that they're still "pure."

I really despise these religious nutjobs in our government. I think any candidate who advocates for legislating from a religious standpoint ought to be banned from holding office.

Jill, I don't necessarily think his comments are coming from a religious standpoint. I could be wrong on that though, I really don't know his motivations in making those statements.

Regardless, I do not agree with him on this. There is no research to prove that homosexuals or unmarried women are more likely to molest kids than their married &/or heterosexual counterparts. I don't know why he'd make such an asinine statement. And what about unmarried men? They get a pass?

This is so far out there that it makes me wonder if his statements were somehow taken out of context or twisted. I'm having a difficult time believing anyone could think/state something so backwards. Is there a link with the entire transcript anywhere?

Demint is a hardcore social conservative and he mentions religion as the reason so I think its fair to say religion played a role.

Not sure if an exact transcript exists, but the article makes it pretty clear in what he said. Also, this isn't the first time he said this. He pretty much said the same thing in 2004 when he was running for his first term.
