Speaking of rich people, I just read something funny and sad at the same time.
The head of a German small-town bank decided to help out clients when she noticed from the internal statements that they were in financial trouble. So she started transferring money from rich clients' accounts to those in need, all in all about $10m
As time went on, the whole Robin Hood thingy got out of hand and she lost control of the mess she created. Eventually a retiree found out when studying the interest he received (
). So he told the bank and they offered the bank director a deal. They would not sue her, if, apart from her being fired, she agreed to pay back damages out of her own pockets (about a quarter of the money was lost as some of those she had helped went broke after all) and not tell anyone in order not to harm the reputation of the bank. So far so good. Here comes the sad part. As the bank was trying to fix the mess, they asked the widow of a man, whom the former director had also helped, to repay the money. But she refused to and instead sued the former director. So much for gratefulness
So the whole thing ended up before the courts after all, where however the former director got away with a suspended sentence. But she is broke now herself.
