"Do you have the autopsy results yet?"

"Yes, sir, the cause of death was that he didn't have much money in the bank. I did find one interesting thing though. He lived to be 52 before the small bank account finally caught up to him. It seems that the lack of money destroyed his liver."

Good, decent, hard-working, patriotic, religious Americans will usually defend the acceptance of poverty.

the link from which they draw the conclusion about more people dying of poverty than terrorism states:

Quote:
The leading known causes of death were cardiovascular [24.4%]; [followed by “unknown”]; followed by substance use [22%] with trauma [17.8%] being the third leading cause of death among homeless people.
they're not starving, apparently - they're dying of heart attacks/strokes, chronic drug and alcohol abuse, getting hit by cars, trains, & buses, and each other.

As someone who's views are fairly right sided, George Bush was a problem for me, but I think this thread is covertly a tribute to his pre-emptive military choices. If the scenario were reversed, it might be down right damning of his actions.

Correct. People don't die from malnutrition in the U.S but many die from overnutrition.

Obesity is certainly one of the major heath issues in the U.S. and is only going to get worse; diabetes etc.

In today's society people are in there cars a great percentage of their day, work at sendentary jobs, don't engage in manual labor, eat fast food etc.

Unless adults make a concerted effort to watch what they eat and engage in physical exercise 5-7 days a week they will end up fat, no obese. This is just a fact of our society.
People may die from gluttony and a sedentary lifestyle but not from malnourishment.

I've never seen poverty listed under "cause of death" on a death certificate.

This country has a unbelievable safety nets to address the needs of those living at/below the poverty level both at the federal/state government levels as well as private charities.

Maybe the OP wants more terrorism attacks to even out the death score on the scales of social justice?

Can't really tell the point of the thread. Must be a huge fail on the OP.

Right, the USA is the only nation where poverty comes with a cell phone and satellite TV. A land line without long distance and charged by the outgoing call can cost as little as $20/mo. in my state. It is the service I opted for to save $$ during this economic disaster.
