Ethically, a nation doesn't own the lives of its citizens. (Debatable, I know. But it's a defensible position that also happens to be mine.)

Pragmatically, wouldn't we feel really stupid 5 years down the road when another terrorist mentions that the Times Square bomber had the numbers of bin Laden's Swiss bank accounts memorized?
