Chamber funds its political attack campaign out of its general account, which solicits foreign funding. And while the Chamber will likely assert it has internal controls, foreign money is fungible, permitting the Chamber to run its unprecedented attack campaign. According to legal experts consulted by ThinkProgress, the Chamber is likely skirting longstanding campaign finance law that bans the involvement of foreign corporations in American elections.

Previously, it has been reported that foreign firms like BP, Shell Oil, and Siemens are active members of the Chamber. But on a larger scale, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce appears to rely heavily on fundraising from firms all over the world, including China, India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Russia, and many other places. Of course, because the Chamber successfully lobbied to kill campaign finance reforms aimed at establishing transparency, the Chamber does not have to reveal any of the funding for its ad campaigns. Dues-paying members of the Chamber could potentially be sending additional funds this year to help air more attack ads against Democrats.

Can any America citizen be in favor of this?

I don't recall it bothered you much when all those overseas contributions went into obama's campaign coffer.

OR when obama and the dems received basically the same "cash".

Oh, anything coming from Stink Progress is incredible - they are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the dems and obama.

They think it is ok that Obama raised the most money in history for a Prez campaign through foreign donations, namely Soros. They have no problem whatsoever about that because these people are Communists and they goose step right along with their dictator.

All publicly traded companies are at least partially foreign-owned. There is no difference between a publicly traded domestic corporation and a public traded foreign corporation, except the location of its headquarters. BP, Shell, and Siemens (aka foreign corporations) are invested in domestically, while Exxon, IBM, etc. (aka domestic corporations) have some foreign ownership. As long as our elections are for sale, there should be a free market for buyers and sellers.

Default President Accuses US Chamber of Commerce of Using Foreign Funds

This is a new low by this president and his administration.

"President Obama this afternoon joined the gang of Democrats and liberal groups alleging that the US Chamber of Commerce is using foreign funds to influence American elections."

President Obama Says Chamber of Commerce Using Foreign Funds to Influence US Elections

0bama has his cronies going out and making accusations without any proof at all, and then demanding that the Chamber open it's books to prove the truth of the accusations. Is this how 0bama thinks it works, you toss out an outrageous accusation, like "0bama is not a US citizen" and then the person being accused is supposed to prove otherwise?

Never mind that the Chamber puts out ads for both republican and democrats, 0bama has no proof or evidence to back up these charges.

In the words of Bob Schieffer to David Axelrod: "Is That the Best You Can Do?"

Poor bob Schieffer, he was hoping for a gangbuster of an October surprise, to help the democrats keep control of the congress, and he was really let down.

When asked what proof he had that the Chamber was using foreign money to run political ads, Axelrod turned it around and demanded that Chamber prove they were not.

I think Axelrod watches child porn on computers, and wen he is on the phone, he makes deals with other folks to acquire child porn. According to the new 0bama standard, we do not need any proof, and we can demand to search any and all computers Axelrod has access to, and tap any phone calls he makes.

I have been following this the last couple of days. They need to be able to show it. That is it. They can stop this at anytime by showing it. That would make everybody shut up and leave them alone. ThinkProgress actually started nailing democrats that they don't like. And may have nailed them to show that they are spreading the love.

Foreign donations disclosed:

"“We have probably 60 or so foreign multi-national companies in our membership that we have had for decades, many of which have been in the United States for half a century or a century,” said Josten.

The Chamber is being deceptive. In addition to multinational members of the Chamber headquartered abroad (like BP, Shell Oil, and Siemens), a new ThinkProgress investigation has identified at least 84 other foreign companies that actively donate to the Chamber’s 501(c)(6). "
