Well, I don't know about you but I'm not voting for anyone who hasn't governed a state or run a business or a large organization with a budget. The Republicans have Newt Gingrich but except for ideological differences, I don't think he's any different than Obama. He's an ideas guy, an academic, author, consultant, documentarian, politician with no implementation background that shows he would know how to make his ideas work. Plus, he's a long time DC insider. He'll do a great job in the debates, just like Obama, but he would not be my pick to run a country.
Obama couldn't lead his way out of a wet paper bag. FAIL.
Thank you for proving my point.
The Republicans (and Tea Party ilk) offer no ideas and no solutions. But they are full of criticisms and snarky remarks. They have had 8 years (under George W) to push America forward, to improve the education system for our nation's children, to reform the broken healthcare system but what did they do instead.....waged a profiteer's war and burned through a budget surplus.
Again, Republicans had an 8 years long opportunity to push America into a brighter 21st century and it was squandered. And now all they can do is sqwauk about nothing.
President Barack Obama is a blessing for America to lead us away from this type of Republican flunkie frat boy mentality and into a forward thinking 21st century.
The article was fair and balanced IMO. He folded like a cheap suit when it came to health care reform and he and the administration grossly underestimated the financial crisis and how it would affect the middle class. But on the other hand, the article also said this which I believe to be completely accurate.
"Most of Obama's private (and sometimes public) rebuttals to the voices slamming him on all sides are justified or spot on. He did inherit a lot of problems from the Bush Administration. He did act quickly in the initial weeks of his Administration to stave off a worldwide depression. His efforts at job creation have been obstructed by Republicans (even the proposals based on policies supported by the GOP in the past). His opponents haven't put forth specifics of their own, nor offered genuine compromise, while the media have allowed the right's activists and gabbers to run wild with criticism without furnishing legitimate alternative solutions."
Whoever had won the last Presidental election would have been in over their heads. Right wingers ought to be thankful Obama won so "their side" was spared some of the fallout. Not all....just some.
Obama has NO previous experience. This is becoming evident.
He's all over the place in his speeches and in his actions.
No wonder no one can pin him down (facist, socialist, communist, progressive, rebublican, etc).
Obama has no previous experience as a President, this is true and he may very well lack management experience in which would count towards being an executive. However for those who focus on just this, its rather ironic that while deriding Obama for lack of experience, many on the right have embraced candidates with no experience in any form of governing. The irony doesn't escape me.
There were plenty of Presidents who had little to know experience, as it is a unique job title in which many in the past made surprising decent Presidents, while others were dismal. George Bush had prior governmental management experience and he sucked bog water as a President, so its not a simple equation. Jimmy Carter, a brilliant and intelligent man also made a dismal President, so its not just intelligence either.
Being a leader and exuding leadership qualities isn't as easy as "A+B=C", and in many cases, a person either has it or they don't, regardless of intelligence or prior experience.
As NewToCa and I have had many discussions over these past years on what we thought he would be and what he is in terms of experience, political lean, etc... one thing I think we agreed on is his seemingly inability to manage the well entrenched establishment forces that surround him, be they the military apparatus, the oppositional party, business and bureaucratic influences, or even his own party.
Perhaps in the end Obama will surprise us all, as regardless of my sentiments towards him, he is the President and I hope he makes good for all our sake, but I will say he does very little in inspiring any confidence in people or being a figure of commanding leadership.
