Hmmm.

Robin Hood is a story (reportedly) based on the life of William Wallace. Ya know.....Braveheart.

So, the Sheriff of Nottingham thing is purely symbolic of England's empire and cronyism. You could prob'ly put King Richard (Longshanks, cuz he was a tall dude), into that role.

Right or wrong, poor 'ole Robin was tortured and dismembered in the end. A less than pretty ending......

Well....

I think you have to take the time and place into consideration when talking about Robin Hood.

There was no social welfare for the poor during medieval times, so what this character was doing seemed like a noble thing.

If someone does this today, then it smells of socialist.

Nobody but NOBODY alive today in the USA can relate to being alive during medieval times with that kind of deprivation.

The poor today have things like Playstation and Xbox, free healthcare and education, sanitation, food programs, back then they had nothing.

So the fairy tale character of Robin Hood was a hero during medieval times. Today he'd be a robbing criminal more like a Crip/Blood/MS13 gangbanger type guy.

I'm not starving. But it isn't a stretch to think of a family in a castle with a mote around it extracting resources from the village to enrich themselves. Especially in an age when family lineage was all that mattered and the people where only there for their benefit. I believe the French government still rubs their necks in time of crisis.

yep

I'll re-write

our government(S) (state and local too) tax us all to poverty

You get no argument from me, I agree. By the way if food gets out of reach for many Americans, those top dogs in the fed will be rubbing their necks in time.

That was a different time and a much different era. Look at how Robin ended up. But wrong is still wrong, where ever and who ever you are stealing from. What ever the reasons and who ever are stealing for the wrong reasons, is still not sending the right sort of message, that it is acceptable to steal from those, better off then you. And in 2010 there are many still stealing for the wrong reasons.

There are examples of criminals in the last hundred years of criminals who are publically treated as heroes. John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, and others in 1930s America, Ronnie Biggs in 1960s Britain, Jacques Mesrine in 1970s France, or Colton Harris Moore in 21st century America.

I wouldn't say that Robin Hood if alive today would be in MS13, MS13's more like a terrorist group than like a gang (and should be treated as a terrorist group by the US government, but that's another topic....)

If I were hungry and didn't have anything to eat, I would not hesitate to steal in a supermarket. Most supermarkets make profits anyway...

Taxation is not theft as you get something in return. Whether you asked for it or not is a different story.
