Other major Iraq drawdown milestones - as of the end of August - include:
• A reduction in vehicles from a peak of 42,000 down to 17,300 - a 58.9 percent reduction.
• A reduction in supply containers from a peak of 88,000 down to 47,000 - a 46.9 percent reduction.
• A reduction in helicopters from 463 to 224 aircraft - a 51.6 percent reduction.
• A reduction of trucks on daily convoys from 3,100 to a daily average of 280- a 91 percent reduction.

Army hits drawdown milestones in Iraq

American support for the Iraq war has collapsed from its high point seven years ago, when the overwhelming majority of Americans cheered George W Bush's decision to overthrow Saddam. The disastrous post-Saddam management of Iraq, together with deeply unedifying episodes such as the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, have resulted in two thirds of Americans now opposing the war. Indeed, Mr Obama picked up many votes during the presidential election contest by issuing constant reminders that he was one of the few Democrat senators to oppose what he referred to as a "dumb war". He clearly believes he can repeat the trick by ending American combat operations before campaigning begins in earnest next month.

And the Brits rip him a new one for doing so. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

He's doing a great job following Bush's plan for a drawdown, too bad he didn't follow through with his campaign promise of ending the war completely.

Well we certainly agree on this. Which is why the US is NEVER willingly leaving Iraq, because what defines it as being "stable" is just another goal post that is as likely to change again. WMDs > removing a tyrant > liberating the people > stabilizing the country > stable government > stable economy > lack of fruit flies > end to to dust > etc...>

You were actually expecting him to keep his campaign promise to end the war?

Did all of the vehicles, supply containers and helicopters just move on over to Afghanistan?

Of course not, Obama is a complete liar but a lot of his supporters believed him and now believe that this "drawdown" is ending the war which it is not.

It is NOT our job to babysit Iraq. They need to take charge of their own country. We gave them a shot at democracy. If they want to make it work, fine. If not, I don't care. Bring home ALL the troops. ALL.

Perhaps we could change the name of the vehicles to "mobile resource movers" to make everyone feel better? To go along with the new trend of saying there are no bases in Iraq, just compounds.

His robots have to give him credit because he is such a liar and failure they have to find something to praise the goof for.

All this was planned BEFORE the idiot came to the WH.

He gets zero credit.

But he did promise to put an end to BOTH WARS didnt he?
