I am not talking about the past, but in our days, what can be achieved by an individual in this country that would not be possible for him to do, in countries like Germany, France Belgium, Sweden, to name a few, that many people here refer to as "socialist".

Starting a business is still easier in the US than in the countries you mentioned, although I think China is an even better place to open a business today. In general, though, heavy government regulation has taken away a lot of American opportunity.

Really?

Are you sure its not also due to difficulty competing with larger corporations?

No. The only way large corporations limit new businesses is by limiting their maximum success; if a startup is too successful they will just be bought up by a large corporation. To the entrepeneur who started the company that's usually quite all right. Few people say no to a big fat buyout check, no matter who it comes from.
