I fly the Aussie flag on Australia Day and Anzac Day - rest of the year it's the Stars & Stripes

We live in the upper Midwestern part of the US--at least up here, you occasionally see families flying flags from the countries where their Northern European pioneer ancestors came from, even if the family has been in the US since the 1800's. It's a cultural pride thing rather than a statement about politics--there are still many farming communities out this way that were settled by pioneers primarily from one country, and long time members of the community have still retained some of that ethnic identity, even if it's just food, celebrations, and a few words of the language. It's fun--no one will care or bother you.

Yes, it's fun and no one will care or bother you...unless it's the Mexican flag. Then? Well, that's different because Mexican's are the enemy du jour, just as were those immigrant groups from other countries in the past. After a generation or two, when this flood of Hispanics are fully integrated into American society (which they will be), that Mexican flag will no longer cause outrage.

But, nobody knows their history well enough to see that.
