The new analysis obtained by POLITICO finds the health care overhaul will result in increased out-of-pocket costs for seniors on Medicare Advantage plans.
Richard Foster, the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, also tells Senate Republicans that the overhaul will result in “less generous benefit packages” for Medicare Advantage plans next year.
Their costs will go up by hundreds of dollars on average in the coming years, by $346 in 2011 to a high of $923 in 2017.”
What an unmitigated disaster obamacare is. When and IF the republicans take over, they should hold hearings on repealing this mess, with detailed information about what the law will DO to you.
Wow, it seems everything he 'promised' (campaign lies) and 'stated as fact' (outright lies)......is coming out as just the opposite.
Who'da thunk it?
There were PLENTY of people that were sounding the warnings about obamacare - and they were RIGHT - increased costs, NOT keeping your plan, whether you like it or not, less access, etc, etc.
Medicare has been paying more for people enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans they they put out on average for a person who uses his Medicare card. Some insurance companies pay out only 70% of their revenue for patient care. The rest goes to overhead and profits - big profits - billion dollar profits for companies like United and Wellpoint. This is not a good deal for Medicare.
Get yourself a Medicare Supplement Plan F and your out-of-pocket costs will be your annual premium.
If you expect to get more from Medicare Advantage than the 75% of folks who are not enrolled in Medicare Advantage you are looking for a handout at the expense of seniors who are not enrolled in Medicare Advantage. If the insurance companies can come up with a good product that is cost-efficient, seniors will stay with Medicare Advantage - but these plans should not be subsidized as they have been since 2006.
The Advantage plans should go away. They have always been a huge drain on Medicare funds and offer very little over Medicare. The plans were a GW Bush, or more accurately, his "financial" advisors invention, to send massive monies to the Ins Cos directly from Medicare. Even the Repubs had to twist arms, make deals, etc to get enough Repubs to sign onto this mess. If you look at how many Ins Cos offering Advantage plans that did not even exist prior, you can plainly see the financial windfall that legislation provided a select few people.

The medicare "advantage" plans actually are much more restrictive in allowed coverage than plain old medicare. We have many medicare advantage plan enrollees who are shocked to find that we need to pre-cert things that medicare covers with no pre-cert at all. It is a bigger pain for the medicare patients and I fail to see how these plans help seniors at all.
