Religion does not belong in politics PERIOD!
You have your right to practice your religion but if your votes are set to control government for religious ideology our country is doomed. We don't need Christians and or Muslims telling us how to live our lives.

I have come to one conclusion people who are generally religious think they are GOD, want the power of GOD and think government is the tool to enforce that authority. Maybe they think God's has told them in the bible and or Koran they must change other people via force (Laws). The bible and Koran etc was written by MAN. GOD has not written a book and if he did write a book God did a ****ty job of getting our story straight.
Government should have no legal say in marriage, no legal say in PERSONAL social decisions unless they are causing harm to other individuals.

If you dont like what is on TV turn it OFF you can't control everyone or create channels for yourself.
stay out of politics stay out of peoples lives religious people are more interested in controling the world around them then anyone else, kill people over it and raise billions of dollars to spread the words of something that groups of people have made their own.
Churches and people who care about others should help others and I believe this to be a human message of free will. Getting government to regulate personal behaviors and or transforming it into a power struggle is not the role of this government.
If you want limit government vote based on limiting yourselves from any religious influence in government.
What you do at home and or in public is your right and no government has that right to remove it just as you have no right to impose it as long as it its not hurting others in the process.
Liberals have no power over your religion if you dont give government the power in the first place.
Religion in politics never accomplish a thing.

Martin Luther King Jr., Civil Rights Leader

Born into a life of religion, Martin Luther King Jr. used his faith to help guide a divided nation toward racial equality, breaking barriers and demanding change through a strict code of nonviolence.

You'd think that the religious demographic in prison would about mirror the demographic of the public, but it doesn't. Even though atheists make up about 16% of the American citizenry, the percentage of atheists in jail is far less than that. Unlike christers, whose demographics are pretty much equivalent inside and out.

So either atheists are just far smarter at being criminals and thus not being caught...or we aren't as "immoral, evil, and lacking in all ethics" as some christers like to claim.

(Note: there are a lot of Christians that don't look down on those of other beliefs, and it's not those that I reference above. That's the difference between a christer and a Christian.)

What do these states all have in common:

North Carolina
Mississippi
South Carolina
Arkansas
Maryland
Tennessee
Texas

Answer:they all have laws against atheists holding public office.

So tell me texdav...how is it that you think atheists have the same rights as do those that believe in imaginary friends and holy books?

That's not the issue.

The issue is religious people's attempts to legislate their religious beliefs and superstitions on the rest of the public.

If enough Somalians in Minnesota get together that they are able to make pork and wine illegal, SHOULD they be able to? What if the Amish in any particular county vote to make electricity illegal? Is it their "right" to do so?

Look people, either you believe in personal freedom and choice, or you don't. Many conservatives and religious people on this board and in this country waving the flag around pretending to love America really have no interest in securing freedoms they don't personally believe in. It's sad they can't admit that for themself, but really, that's fine. It's a personal choice. Too bad many feel the need to legislate others' beliefs and behaviors based on THEIR interpretation of what God wants.

We have a Republic and a Constitution, and not a direct democracy (mob rule) for a reason.

If the "Christer's" God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and all-powerful, why do His believers think that God needs his edicts enforced by the Sheriff? Perhaps they lack the faith to actually trust their God to punish the unbelievers in His own way.

To used LAW to enforce religion and religion to determine Law diminishes both.

If your elected people are voting based on religious beliefs would we still be burning witches and anything non approved by that religion. You should only elect people into government to protect general law and order and mankind's free will to make his/her own destiny in social and economic choices. If someone who is running for office is promoting freewill they are not interested destroying your religion and controlling people's person choices of the individual.
People who murdered or steal are considered known acceptable wrongs even almost any society and part of a natural law. Government has the power to bring to justice the group or individual who has with force taken the rights of another human being via their life or property.
These natural laws should also apply to governments for it has not right to take someone's life and or property only restoring the balance when individuals have broken that law.

You shouldn't need religion to tell you what is right and what you should already know. If you believe in GOD do you think he stuck you on this earth alone, helpless and without a internal choice.
The idea of freedom is natural struggle for survival no something MLK needed to do. Religion of many sorts bind peoples minds and bodies to themselves and often lets in churches the idea that black people for any time and even the KKK in the name of Christ burned the cross on the lawns of many families. Proving my point that religions reasoning is completely not serving its purpose in government.
Those who hear the words of mankind and or any GOD they seek have given us death, destruction, in the name of greed, power and the illusion of giving you supernatural forces over your lives.
For thousands of years humans continue to choose their own destiny they have created different churches. Death, destruction and families lost for the power to say my god is better then yours. The simple conclusion that politics and power to control nuclear weapons and guns do not belong in the hands of those who believe religion is the governments moral code.

Of course, it affects whom I vote for. Just like the liberal mindset affects every aspect of a socialist's life.

If you can't put your religion on the shelf when you vote it means your religion controls every decision you make in your personal life. Of which government has no business in. Yet you with your vote can put into power someone who would control other peoples choices.

The role of government is and always has been destructive to liberty. When government can tell you how to run your life for religious reasons that country has set a path to destruction. Government is not god's right hand and government is not its salvation or provider.
Government must be limited in every way of which humans have a very hard time with because of their need to control people, things and events.
