Whether it be radio, tv, or the internet, why has Beck, Hannity, Rush, and others become the king of ratings?

It's simple

When Democrats use conservative language to promote their agenda, it ultimately creates more support for Republicans.

They "tell it like it is" and go for the jugular when they have to. They don't worry about making it P.C. There is no cover up by "omission" either. If it happens, they don't waste time getting it out there and doing further investigation on it. If it were up to the mainstream media, we wouldn't know anything or we'd get a watered down liberal-spun version of it. Besides, I like to hear Sean refer to B.O. as "the annointed one", and Rush refer to him as "the Messiah." After the way Bush was disrespected, I think it's hysterical.

I can't speak to all of it but I have personally witnessed one thing that stands out to me. It's probably not just conservative talk either. Part of it is psychology. There is something about finding something to focus your frustrations on that is cathartic. An outrage, real or not (ie "war on christmas"), is an outlet for the darker parts of us. And being mad at something/someone becomes habit forming and people look forward to their next fix. Basically, it's like the schoolyard where having an enemy is practically a must, and sticking it to them becomes a ritual even when you have long forgotten why, because the "why" isn't even the issue. Pointing at wherever your anger lies gives people something to do and makes them feel like they have a cause. It also means you don't have to look inward, and that's something we all avoid.

Because conservatives don't like to think for themselves and need someone to shout at them what they want to hear....it's so much easier than taking personal responsibility to do research on their own....

And absurdity is always a better "sell" than dry old facts thingys....

Interesting responses. I think it is also because Americans as a whole, are generally more conservative than other countries. Deep down we love and cherish our "American Values", whether they are right or wrong to others. I think our media outlets get this and thus promote them more so than other types of hosts. It's not just FOX either......

They have great entertainment value but nothing more.

Really? Nothing more? So why are they entertaining, especially for liberals who seem to comment so much about them? I was always under the impression that the more you give the class clown attention, the more they perform. Is that not true?

Because it requires conscious intelligence to resist brainwashing and that commodity is in short supply.
