We had people in our own 'camp' who ignored information that could've possibly derailed the attack. Israel needs us as much as we need them. It's self-preservation.
From Wikipedia:

August 2001 - The Israeli Mossad gives the CIA a list of 19 terrorists living in the US and say that they appear to be planning to carry out an attack in the near future.

People need to read a bit more about the many information services who tried to forewarn America, about the planned 9/11 attack.
Our leaders just laughed this information off and paid little or no attention to it.

September 2001
- Egyptian intelligence warns American officials that al Qaeda is in the advanced stages of executing a significant operation against an American target,
probably within the US. In her testimony to the 9/11 Commission, Condoleezza Rice stated that "the threat reporting that we received in the spring and summer of 2001
was not specific as to time nor place nor manner of attack. Almost all the reports focused on al Qaeda activities outside the United States." However, on August 6, 2001,
the President's Daily Briefing, entitled Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US warned that bin Laden was planning to exploit his operatives' access to the U.S. to mount a
terrorist strike: FBI information... indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country, consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attack.

Rice responded, when being asked about the PDB at the Commission hearings, that "it wasn't something that we felt we needed to do anything about".

Those are political decisions. They were made by the goverment, not the soldiers. If you have a beef, take it up with the current President, who seems committed to compounding the errors of his predecessor.

Speaking of "overloooked", you are ignoring the very fact (like ALL conservatives) we are responsible for war crimes against innocent people. No one has been arrested or tried for these crimes. Too bad your jingoism makes you blind and deaf.
As I said in my original post, unless you have been in combat, you have no clue what you are talking about. Like ALL liberals, you sit in your easy chair, risking nothing, and pass judgement on soldiers who lay their lives on the line every day. Feel free to do so -- it`s your right, after all. A right which was won for you by people whom you glibly and hypocritically describe as "war criminals"...

What difference does it make how a civilian gets killed? It could be an Apache, a .50 cal, an M-4, an MK-19 grenade launcher or any of the other weapons porn that conservatives ooh and ahh over in their easy chair watching FOX News.

Dead is dead, and criminal is criminal. Blaming their deaths on politics is a cop out.

I take responsibility for the crimes of my government. If more people would accept responsibility for what happens perhaps so much death and destruction wouldn't happen (or more would try and prevent it).

Not really true. Many students, I went to college with, took up joining the Reserves to have their education paid for. I worked my ass off with a part time job instead. No easy chair for me. I couldn't fathom the idea of killing. I see someone's son, father, or brother, not a political enemy.

The students who took the money for joining the Reserves never saw war on the horizon. War changes people and not for the better.

Today's political enemies are tomorrows allies. All the killing is for naught. Didn't we actually support Osama when the Soviets were at war in Afghanistan?

This is something quoted poorly from Chava61, not me.

Risking what? Your leisure time? So you kept your skirts clean and now describe others who fight for you as "war criminals". Hypocritical, as best.

Yet for you, the only war crimes are committed by Americans...why?

No duh. We also fought the Germans and Japanese. Are you just discovering these things? And when are you going to designate Obama as the new LBJ?

Yeah, that was weird.

Edit: And I see it just happened again. The City-Data technies must be napping.

Well I thought we were talking about industrial espionage when I said we were on par with Israel. Isn't that the question you asked me about?

I won't comment on the sales of military things to China as I'm not privy to insider info on that. On the surface that doesn't look good but all kinds of things go on behind the scenes whose reasons aren't necessarily obvious to their being done a certain way.

No, it's the truth. Ask any soldier how much he wanted to go to war. I can tell you, I sure didn't.

How dramatic of you. If you take responsibility for the crimes of your government, you ought to get into the streets and burn Obama in effigy. 'Cause he's doing one helluva reprise of Lydon Johnson...
