One problem with China: often the local party officials are simply Stalinist Tyrants. This may well be the case in this instance.
Believe it. Local official get money based on how well they manage to enforce the one child policy -- like state in the US getting road money for enforcing the 21 year old drinking age.
These local officials can get very brutal in their enforcement.

A not so subtle shot at pro-lifeers , no doubt. There is no comparison. Pro-life and the murderers that implement this policy are at completely opposite ends of the spectrum. A better approximation of China's birth control tugs would be the American progressive movement that is in favor of forced sterilization.

Yes, and it is getting worse. The long term consequences of this are going to be dire, not just for China but for the whole world. China's military is getting stronger every year. In 20 or 30 years when this male majority population is running things you are going to see a very aggressive China with the military power to back up that aggression. One of hte quickest ways to eliminate a male/female imbalance is to fight a war (where 99% of the service member casualties will be males). China lost a million people in the Korean war and the leadership didn't blink -- and that was when they had nothing to gain. Don't think that they wouldn't use war as a means of population control. Millions of men unable to find wives is very disruptive to teh country and the Chinese central government is all about keeping order and control.

Are you serious? That is what you are going to say to this story?
Like it's the same thing? If this is the kind of government that you want, please move to China, and leave here.
This is the government murdering a very much wanted baby. No respect for human life.

Yes, some of the girls are adopted by US parents. This also means there are fewer women to bear the next generation. Perhaps the one-child policy has gone too far. But even if it is lifted, the one-child family is probably ingrained at this point.

Ordinary Chinese have expressed disgust at the Luos’ ordeal, labelling the family planning officials ‘cruel’ and ‘inhuman’.

this is terrible and china should extend it to at least two child max. also, it is not good to have just the one child policy as there is a gender imbalance.

but also china has to enforce the number of children policy or there will be an overpopulation problem. the more lenient they get, others will get ideas try to sidetrack the laws even more.

Wow. Crazy they did that at 8 months pregnant. Very sad indeed....... China is very strict with the policy on ubran dwellers. Rural people can have 2 and minorities are not bound by the policy.

Never the less. Most people living in China are supportive of the policy. Even my Chinese friends living here (I used to date one) are supportive of the One Child Policy. Most educated Chinese people believe that if a child cannot be fed, then it should not be born. I can't say I disagree.

Additionally appalling when the government is an active participant in infanticide and coerced abortions. China has a very ugly history of eugenics.

Yet, despite the long history in China of human rights violations few pay any attention to our government giving them "most favored nation" trade status.

It's a wonder they didn't just kill her, there is not a lot of respect for life in China, Remember all the people loaded on trucks and hauled away for the Olympics? I wonder what happened to them? And they are carrying our debt.
