What used to be hearsay from the so-called black helicopter crowd is now in the open. When a cop pulls you over, he can only inspect your car that is readily visible without a warrant or probable cause. A cop can only inspect your house with a warrant. The mobile van body scanners can instantly search your entire car, person, and house without a warrant or probable cause. Is this right or wrong? Why or why not?
As times become more desperate to live in we have to make sacrifices for security.
I have no problem with that.
Store your rocket launcher in the garage.
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" - unknown
No, to me, this is a clear case where the law has not caught up to technology. Usually its the criminals that take advantage of this, but it has become more of the norm for government agencies and police forces to do that.
I do not want my vehicle, my home, or anything else of mine scanned without a warrant, which is my right under the Constitution of these United States.
The phrase "probable cause" has, in my mind, gone way to far. Oh, I wear a beard, I guess I must be a terrorist. Someone walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around their head, must be a terrorist.
What makes you think you're giving up something because your car is screened?
If you're not guilty of anything what's the concern over?
The inevitable, "We thought we saw", so we pulled this person over who then got excited so we tased them, they went into cardiac arrest and died face down in a ditch... whoops, sorry
Isn't that similar to, "If you're not a Jew, what's the concern over?"

If I have the right to be searched only with a warrant, then I would like to maintain that right, even if I have nothing to hide.
This is how freedom dies. When the government convinces you to place your hands on the yellow circles while you are being scanned because you have nothing to hide. It is very faulty logic that only criminals and terrorists be concerned about warrantless spying

But they had probable cause, and got a 5 week paid vacation (administrative leave, with pay), so its ok.

And I bet right now they would say they have probable cause to search everyone and their possessions and houses with the mobile vans because of the risk of terrorism Welcome to life under the "Patriot Act."
