Besides....capitalism is more fair--don't work, you don't get paid.
More fair? To whom? To the 45 million uninsured?

And how is that quality of life simply better in the US when the poverty stats have increased so much?

When you create a dependency, weather is be a drug, or a government, the person cannot function without it.

I can function by my self currently, and would not like that feeling of reliance.

Socialism lost in 1991, why try to implement a failed economic system?

So, what is wrong with socialism? I mean, it works for other countries who live peaceful and happy lives. I am not seeing the problem here. IMO, the US could do with some socialism injected.
France is very peaceful and happy today, according to you. Of course, you don't have a car parked on the streets that may get burned or upset by rioters. In case you didn't know those riots are based in socialism. The government finally realized that they couldn't continue the way they had. When they talked about raising the retirement level from 60 to 62 here came the born into and raised under socializism groups to riot and demand the 60 remain.

It may take a few years for that kind of crap to hit us but with much more socialism we would get there sooner than France did. Socialism = redistribution of wealth and anyone who doesn't understand that must be at the bottom of the group wanting the wealth of those above them without working for it.

What I truly don't understand is, if you people want to live in a socialist country, why don't you move to one? It's that simple folks.

Hmm, then how do you explain the citizens of Norway and Sweden who function quite well?

BTW, there is a huge difference between drug dependency and government dependency, the former being it's actually in the DSM IV.

This thread is about what is wrong with socialism, why are people afraid of it, not why doesn't someone move.

BTW, check out the barriers to just "moving" to another country. It's not as simple as you'd think.

The socialist nanny states are unsustainable.

You can site MAYBE two countries and then IGNORE all the rest that are collapsing.

Well, maybe people should change and not be so driven to look out (only) for themselves. I think that is called a form of greed and that is what has led to the current mess the US is in.
