What is wrong with socialism? I hear this word bandied about as if people live in fear of it and it's a bad thing.

So, what is wrong with socialism? I mean, it works for other countries who live peaceful and happy lives. I am not seeing the problem here. IMO, the US could do with some socialism injected.

Oh please, do point out where socialism is "working" today.

France? Cuba? Venezuela? Greece? Spain? Portugal?

All countries collapsing under their socialistic "burdens".

It doesn't work? Quality of life is simply better in capitalistic countries.

Besides....capitalism is more fair--don't work, you don't get paid.

In theory, it's a perfectly logical idea. In practice, not so much. People are too driven to look out for themselves first to make socialism actually succeed.

Socialism works sometimes when it has a Capitalist Sugar Daddy to suck on.

It's convenient for you to pick out countries with poor economies but fail to mention countries like Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany with strong economies, good healtcare and education systems and strong infracsturce.

Are you kidding? Half of the posters on this board get paid yet don't work.

One firm conservative poster made it very clear not too long ago that he or she was disabled and got Federal disability benefits. After a year of receiving such benefits one has received back much more than they ever paid in (through the Social Security tax).

I mean, look at all the people here who post literally all day long, raving about the 'socialist' and such. They have the time to do so because they are all deadbeats (like my brother-in-law, whom I have written about elsewhere).

And those economies have been built on the U.S. dime. First, we re-built western Europe after WWII. Without that they would all be at the level of the Soviet eastern satellites. Secondly, because we provided the security umbrella for the continent, they were able to spend their money on butter instead of guns. If they had been (and currently were) required to pay for their own defense their economies would look a lot different. Actually, they might all be speaking Russian now.

I think it was Margaret Thatcher who said:
"The problem with socialism is that eventually, you run out of other people's money"
