I suppose he's trying to make a point by the similarity to being in stocks, i.e., the lack of freedom. People who are addicted to a strong chemical like nicotine sometimes lose their rationality about the subject.

I guess they can also show a non-smoker standing on the outside with their head and arms through the holes having inconsiderate smokers blowing second hand smoke in their face from the inside.

So you demand that he ban smoking in his own restaurant (which you are free not to patronize) and he is inconsiderate?

You mean his freedom to blow cancerous exhalations in other peoples' faces?

Hey, New York City put a ban on smoking in restaurants. First everyone started screaming that it was the end of civilization as we know it. Then...guess what? It turned out that people who choose not to smoke have rights too. And since smoking is not a necessity for life, the ban was enforced. And everyone has survived.

Right to breathe 1, smokers 0.

Maybe they need something like that here in the USA for cell phone users in restaurants as well . There's nothing like having some idiot at the next table carrying on a conversation loud as heck over a stupid phone while his fellow diners are sitting there at his table being ignored by him. And the rest of us have to put up with listening to his conversation about some idiotic ball game from the night before.

Think back to before the ban; What about your right to just not patronize restaurants where smokers went? If there weren't any, did you ever consider asking business owners why they didn't take it upon themselves to ban smoking on their property?

Our railroad put a smoking ban in effect back in the mid-90.
Afterwards, I saw my boss standing UNDER the lid of an outside DUMPSTER, in the pouring rain, having a smoke.

It's his addiction.
It's his problem.
