The sash and the vest are not the only pieces. If one girl has the full uniforn, they all want it but they can't all afford it. They also grow and move up so it gets expensive to keep buying it. While everyone is complaining about China, we should be complaining about why it costs so much to make here. I don't have a problem with the salaries. You need smart business people to run a large organization. The girls get no other support and the organization does a great deal for them. The camps and the meeting locations they own are wonderful and safe and at all the levels I was exposed to, the girls came first. I was always impressed with the organization.
Exorbitant salaries does not equate to smart people, it more easily equates with greed. As former volunteer Cub Scout leaders and parents, we were pretty preturbed to have our boys being hustled by headquarters to sell popcorn for 6 figure incomes of BSA top dog in the 1980's. This is unconscionable compensation for someone salaried in the non-profit sector. The cut for the Pack and Council at least should be the much greater majority of the popcorn sales, administrative cut should be minimal at best . People feel they are donating to actual Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when they buy BSA popcorn and GSA cookies...they'd be surprised at what they don't know! This protest of GSA potentially moving GS uniform production to China may even be a wake up call to all non-profits dealing with our children to mind their p's and q's, for them to put our donations where our kids are.
I stopped supporting GirlScouts a while back. I don't think they uphold wholesome ideals anymore. This just reaffirms to me that I did the right thing.
For the first time in nearly a decade, Girl Scouts of the USA is putting the manufacture of its uniforms out to competitive bid. News of this led to reports that the uniforms might soon be manufactured overseas, and over the last few days, Girl Scouts of the USA has been contacted by parents, members and volunteers urging us to make sure that the iconic Girl Scout uniform continues to be made in the USA. We have taken their concerns into consideration, and have altered our request for proposal to require that Girl Scout uniforms be manufactured in the United States.
No decision has been made regarding which supplier we’ll use when our current contract expires. Our vendor review process continues, with the new requirement, in order to provide our customers with the best quality, value and service. As always, we also require that vendors agree to adhere to strict guidelines as to worker age, treatment and safety.
We thank the many Girl Scout parents and volunteers who stood up for their beliefs and showed our 2.4 million girls that every voice makes a difference. They are the role models who help build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
In the not too distant future a 'junk food tax' will be tacked on to the cookies which will hurt their bottom line even more. Maybe they will start selling samoan carrot sticks.

Rules and regulations in a global economy, where nations without any, will dominate the playing field, puts us in a pickle.
Clinton signed NAFTA, on December 8, 1993
Clinton signed the China Trade bill, on October 10, 2000
Look where we are now! They didn't call him Slick Willy for nothing. We got F'ed and took it with a smile, just like Monica.
Trade tariffs are the one single thing that offsets the unfair restrictions, placed on the USA by it's government, to create a utopia.
This is just so wrong. I am starting to think that anything made offshore should have a special tax added at the till...preferably a high tax to support all those people in the U.S. and Canada who have lost good jobs to outsourcing. Somebody should outsource that Girl Scout Spokesperson to China, or better yet---send him over there in a container ship to sell cookies
