PITTSBURGH, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Despite the moral and ethical enormity of ending life-support for incapacitated patients, most would prefer doctors not make the decision, U.S. researchers say.
Dr. Douglas B. White of the University of Pittsburgh says a study shows more than half of surrogate decision makers prefer to have full authority over the life and death choice than to share or cede that power to physicians.
Doctors don't want to make life or death decisions because they want the patients to do it while they're still healthy and in a good frame of mind through Living Wills. One of the first things they ask you when you check into a hospital in my town is if you have one and if you don't they can make arrangements for you to do so. It's selfish to expect someone else to decide for you what criteria to use...........

You didn't get the memo, living wills are now "death panels." You really need to brush up on tea party doublespeak.
I think its a better idea (if you want to live longer) to not let doctors make that decision... why? You see, reimbursements for these type of medical care are usually HORRIBLE... when it comes down to it and a patient has a small chance of survival and the hospital is losing money every day while the patient's life is being prolonged... it would be cheaper just to pull the plug... its not that they are "wrong" because there is only a small chance of survival, meaning 95% of them will die while 5% will live on... rather than 100% of them will die if someone else decided... it would of sucked if you fell into that 5%...
