Empires don't "fall" anymore. Instead, they shrink back to a manageable level.

The ordinary citizens will be the same. They will said, yes, the government is stealing from us, but what can we do. They will continue watching their favorite sport team(s), the latest how TV series. Then and only when they loss their job, loss their house and loss their wife, they pick up a gun and lost it.

We are an empire. We are the world's dominant economic and military power. The world's economy is our economy. We occupy or have troops in over 100 nations and the ability to project massive military power all of the world. So yes, we are an empire.
