I have already talked to 3 "friends" today that voted, and in their words "went in and just pushed buttons" not knowing anything about the candidates/ issues. UGH!
I've always felt that if people need encouragement they probably don't know anything about the issues and should not be voting. I don't vote when I'm uninformed, usually local stuff. That doesn't mean I'm always right about every issue but at least I try. There are way too many idiots voting IMO.
I don't think so. I have three young adult kids who aren't that interested in politics yet. I'm sure I could influence them to vote the way I vote if I wanted to, but I won't do that. I don't think they should vote until they are ready and until they know what it is they are voting for.
In the 2008 election I said basically that same thing on this board and someone who was for Obama told me she DOES actively influence her kids and her kids' friends and takes them to the polls to make sure they vote. I think that's sneaky and underhanded, coercing (maybe that's too strong a term) someone to vote the way you want them to, when left to their own devices they probably wouldn't vote. I wonder if the kids felt used?

That can't be that much worse than pushing (or not pushing) a button for a particular candidate simply because he/she has an (R) or a (D) next to the name.

OP remember you can't fix stupid and you can't for any reason take way peoples right to vote. Even if they really don't care. I wish that was different but it's a sad fact of life.
Do your part and be a educated American and by cause and effect you will be a leader.
Additionally to all the people that post on this political page. No matter what side of the isle you stand on. It is clear by the mear fact the you have an interest in the direction of this US of A, and that you take the time to vote and also become a part of the solution. Agree or disagree I salute you all for being Americans and keeping the founders dreams alive.
What kind of sense does it make for someone who doesn't know or care about the issues to vote?
They learn, I don't know 1 single person that just push buttons, My wife has helped a lot of her family and friends start voting and as people do they get more interested in politics and how it affects them.
Why would you deny anyone the right to vote? Do you think your better than anyone else? Should your vote be the only one that counts?
Every person has the right to vote.

This is probably one of those things where what sounds good probably isn't really for the best. So the chants of "get out and vote" are actually counterproductive to some degree. We might all be better off if politically uninformed citizens stayed out of the voting booths on Election Day.
