o god.

True story. There is a woman that I run into every so often. A few weeks ago I ran into her and we were chatting and she asked about specific programs/services for kids. Some of the programs have never been there. I think people assume that something is in place when in reality it wasn't. However, many have been cut.

What I did not say was that it was an R that cut the ones that we had because he wanted the money shifted to his pet projects. I do not know if I could have said that without seething. So, she says, "So we have nothing?" I said, "Slim pickings."

She said, "It is those damn socialists." Ok.

Well, honey, if it was those damn socialists then you would still have those programs, no? I didn't say that. I just excused myself.

So, I got up very early on election day so that I could beat the crowds and take my kid to see it before school started. Guess who is there?

Neither republicans nor conservatives would waste their time on anyone who insists on measuring political philosophy in dollars and cents. Conservatives normally refuse to converse with those whose shoe size are greater than their IQ.

Republican political philosophy is dollar and cents. The wealthy get the dollars because the great masses have no sense.

I try to avoid talking to people period. However, I don't generally discuss politics with people when I have to talk to them, it's strictly business.

I actually try to avoid it as well, and it may be a factor of where I live, but these new active republicans always feel the need to voice their political opinions when no one has asked for it.

Is the original question why people don't vote their own narrow self-interest?

Because some people vote for what they think is right, not just what they think gets them the most money.

For a lot of conservatives, they believe it's wrong to take money from person A and give it to person B for no reason other than person A has it and person B wants it.

That's true, even if the conservative happens to be person B.

And that's why Republican's often vote against their own narrow self-interest.

Last week, we had a meeting and one of the subjects brought up was renewing health insurance. I don't carry it, so it didn't apply to me. A few people brought up Obama and such, but I just ignored it. The whole issue didn't apply to me, as I don't have insurance, and I just wanted the meeting to be over so I could get back to work.

Most that votes only down party lines is more for the party. However people that even though are registered as a Republican or Democrat but look at the issues, get involved and decide for them selves is a more informed voter. Some pick one of the 2 parties only to vote in the primaries and others because they are followers of their idols, Beck and Limbaugh.
While I do occasionally watch Beck, but not allot I rarely listen to Limbaugh because he pats him self on the back so often I am surprised that by the end of the show he doesn't have a hole in his shirt.
I am registered as am Modern Whig how ever in 08 I registered as a Republican to vote in the primarily.

That's a good question... How do you talk to a republican. As opposed to what? A pterodactyl? A car? An empty room? Or does your rant imply voting republican is the wrong thing to do, as opposed to voting democrat?

Voting democrat is giving up some and eventually everything to socialism and the socialist crony bankers. Plus they get to tell us what we can eat in the process. You don't have to agree with that, I could - really not - care less.

I realized long ago that my life had little to do with the Constitution of the U.S., but that the Constitution of the U.S. has a very great deal to do with my life. So I vote the INTENT to reduce the size and scope of the federal government. Sure, it doesn't always work and I usually vote Libertarian. My district is red anyway. You can't even get blue underwear around here.

I agree with Marco Rubio and can only watch and hope he follows thru with extreme leadership on his reason that Republicans now have a second chance. If they fail they'll be out of business and I will not be sad. I'll just continue to vote Libertarian.

I'm sure as hell NOT voting for a bunch of progressive socialists.

I agree, I have a lot of republican friends. We just don't talk politics much!
