This movie came out in 1965 and is supposed to one of the highest grossing movies of all time (when adjusted for inflation). Most likely, you have seen this musical.
Some of the values it arguably espouses are:
- Family and children
- Religious faith
- Musical passion
- Romantic love and marriage
- Love of one's country
- Hope and optimism
- Beautiful natural scenery
- Anti-Nazism
So, I'm wondering, do these characteristics and this movie as a whole comes off as liberal or conservative to you today?
Well, maybe a little of both....I love the movie and always thought of it as, Right vs Wrong....not liberal vs conservative....guess you could make that analogy out of alot of movies, couldn't you?

I can see no reason why that movie had to be either liberal or conservative. I don't recall politics being involved other than trying to show that the Austrian Nazis were about like the German ones. Did you see my post about the Austrian lady who lived through that time and what she saw as a change in the Austrian people after they had voted 98% for a new Nazi government?
Captain von Trapp is characterized as a rigid conservative comfortable only with routine and precision, who learns to "lighten up" after being won over by the more permissive and free-spirited Maria. She's also an acoustic-guitar-carrying folkie.
