Alex Blaze: Anti-Gay Ballot Initiatives Hurt Straight People, Too
City Council To Consider Repealing Voter-Approved Benefits Initiative - News Story - KVIA El Paso

Rev. Tom Brown of the Word Of Life Church in El Paso collected enough signatures to put the following question on the Nov 2nd ballot.

""Shall the ordinance, endorsing traditional family values by making health benefits available only to city employees and their legal spouse and dependent children, be approved?"

It passed 55% to 45%. The question was aimed at taking away health benefits from about 20 city employees with gay or straight unmarried spouses. Unfortunately the "city employee" definition excludes elected officials, Public Service Board (water works) employees and widows of retirees. "Dependent children" excludes foster kids and grandchildren who are dependents of employees. In all about 200 additional people would lose health benefits.

Idiots. City Council is now considering a vote to repeal the voter initiative.

Ugh, your screename is fitting.

ANYWAY, moving right along. This is too funny. Well they got their just desserts. Now that they've gotten a lil taste of discrimination maybe they'll have a little more understanding and compassion and think twice when they feel like being oppressive bigots.
