What do you suggest? That they lay down in a gutter and die for your convenience?

And relying on private charities is a recipe for a permanent Dickensian existence for large swaths of the population.

Either loosen NIMBYist regulations so that people aren't completely locked out being self-sufficient, or be willing to contribute to help those in need with the basics.
Why have "large swaths of the population" placed themselves in such a position? How is that anyone's fault but their own?

Honestly? A lot of it is due to our country's public education system, in which Dems insist on keeping kids trapped. When you see the outcomes, by race, you'll understand why there's such a huge income/wealth gap, by race:

Percent of 12th grade students of each race/ethnicity who are proficient or above, by race/ethnicity group:

Mathematics:

Overall: 26%

Asian/Pacific Islander: 47%
White: 33%
American Indian/Alaska Native: 12%
Hispanic: 12%
Black: 7%

Reading:

Overall: 38%

Asian/Pacific Islander: 47%
White: 47%
American Indian/Alaska Native: 26%
Hispanic: 23%
Black: 16%

National Assessment of Educational Progress - NAEP - 12th Grade Mathematics and Reading

Does anyone really wish to assert that Blacks are actually that much less intelligent than Whites? Or is it far more likely that our country's public K-12 education system is the largest, most wide-spread form of institutional racism in the U.S.?

There are only so many jobs and only so many good paying jobs, plus boomers are waiting longer to retire than the silent generation did, which is causing jobs to stay filled and not open up

Wouldn't that be a good reason to CHOOSE to NOT over-breed, particularly among the poor? Don't they bear any responsibility for their children's future?

May be boring to you, but when asked why there's such a huge income/wealth gap by race, the extreme differences in educational outcomes is at least a partial, valid explanation.

Wealth and income are not the same thing.

The wealth gap is what was cited and wealth is based on assets, not income.

Assets, amongst the middle class and wealthy are often a legacy passed down to one's children/family members. Black Americans 50 years ago, over half of them were in poverty and had no property due to overt oppression and racism preventing them from being able to own property in particular, even those who were middle class by income - if they lived in particular areas, including northern cities like Chicago and NYC or out west in Oakland or LA. So of course black people today would have less wealth since our grandparents in many areas were not allowed to acquire any valuable assets just because they were black....

Everything is not about a standardized test lol and wealth in America is primarily generational and not tied to education or test. It is tied to homeowner-ship rates/opportunities. Your constant citing of tests makes me believe you work for a testing company lol.

There is an income gap, as well. You know that.

Income is strongly correlated with educational achievement. You know that, as well.

I'm not talking about myself.

But for those to which the discussion applies, their inability to "figure it out" affects the rest of us living in society, like it or not.

Whether it's the increased risk of crime committed by desperate people, the urban blight, public health and sanitary risks (my husband saw a needle on a park bench once ), etc.

Truth be told they don’t pay their individual taxes, because theyre in trust funds, offshore accounts, special accounts and all the the little tax loopholes that the rich pay accountants to figure out.

Companies like Amazon and Apple have taken all kinds of steps to avoid massive taxes.
