We had an interesting thread about home schooling. We had many members defend the concept of home schooling even going so far as to claim it was superior to public/private schooling. Yet, not one of these individuals could admit they were home schooled....pretty odd!

Similarly, we have certain members who defend ideas that would be interpreted as being racist yet none of these members can openly admit they are racist?

This is an anonymous forum. Why would someone be afraid to admit that he or she is racist or home schooled? Someone claimed that they would be ridiculed if they admitted that. My answer to that is why do you care? If I believed in ideas that I thought were better or superior, I would have no problem admitting that. So if you believe that racism and fascism is a superior philosophy then why can't any of you proudly admit that?

What does that say of someone's convictions in their beliefs if they are afraid to acknowledge them? If you believe in white supremacy then why not admit it....especially here of all places...an anonymous forum? In my opinion, if someone can't admit something like that then it tells us what they really think of the ideas they defend in other words they realize their ideas are inferior and can't stand up for them.

Well, in a general sense I believe that blacks can run faster than other racial groups. I guess I should say that select blacks have the god-given ability to run "the fastest" when compared to all other people. This is in fact a racist notion and I will admit to it. I think there are degrees of racism and various types of racism. If I preferred white women to black women (I have no preference, by the way) then I would be a racist. Some of these unpopular tags potentially aren't as bad as some folks think. I went to a "meet the candidate" thing at a local auditorium and the friendliest candidate was a socialist. I didn't vote for him, by the way.

Pardon me for interjecting some logic into this thread BUT could it be because nobody here was home-schooled yet they still support the idea? I wasn't home schooled but my wife was, we plan to home school our children when that time comes. In many ways it is better than public school and given the number of programs there are out there today you don't have to worry about the social aspect of it.

There, do you feel better?

The internat is never anonymous. Don't believe it? Just google your user name. If you use that name on photobucket we can even see your pics.

Good or bad? It is good if it can keep some from abusing their privilege in posting. Remember keep it clean and don't bash too much.

I would ask the opposite question. I wonder if people in a face to face debate take the same positions as they do here.

I didn't see the thread about homeschooling, but I personally believe homeschooling is superior to public school yet I wasn't homeschooled and we don't have kids yet so I don't have anything to admit to. Most likely, others on CD are in the same boat. Besides, why is that something that has to be "admitted"?

As to the racism, that's a personal opinion. Just b/c you might think something is racist doesn't mean I do. Some things are said or done without any ill intentions, although someone who is looking for racism or any other kind of problem would likely find it if they looked hard enough. Also, just b/c someone says something online doesn't mean they act a certain way in life. Have you ever said "I could have killed him!" knowing of course full well that you would never lay a hand on the person? It's a similar situation, I imagine, in some cases on CD.

I would like to call out the OP for another thinly disguised race-baiting thread. Maybe you should "admit certain things on an anonymous forum."

Was it Friedrich Nietzsche who thought that it was a common error to think one has courage of one's convictions where the reality is that one must have courage for an attack on one's convictions?

Maybe, even in anonymity, people are afraid of the attack. Your name doesn't have to be out there to still be knocked off of your foundation.

People use different user names on various internet sites so who you get on Google may not be the same. The name I use here, Ceece, was a name I saw on another forum...where I use a different name. User names aren't unique in any way so you really never know what you will get. But my son uses one specific user name for everything, and it's a unique, made up name so if you Google it the only hits you get are him.
