Bill Nye the 'science guy' faints and the crowd of students are more concerned with tweeting a blow by blow. No one initially even jumped to see if he needed help.

In a separate incident in New Orleans, a comedian is shot and killed. The crowd gathers and someone films this dying/dead man on their cell phone.

Who raised these people? What in the world has brought people to this level of callousness for a fellow human? This isn't about race, income status, religion, or any of the typical things people like to blame. I'm sure most of the USC crowd come from typical middle-class American families from across the country.

This is disturbing.

If the Science Guy passes out and nobody tweets it, did it happen? - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20101117/sc_yblog_thelookout/if-the-science-guy-passes-out-and-nobody-tweets-it-did-it-happen - broken link)

I'm surprised they thought enough about it to mention it online. People over-rely on their gadgets.

I wouldn't have done anything because another person's well-being isn't any of my business...so I wouldn't post about it on the Internet either.

EDIT: Specifically referring to a person I don't personally know. I don't "know" any celebrities. I know of them, but I don't know them.

Yes it's sick. It's like each person is their own personal CNN/MSNBC/Reuters because they're always wired to the web tweeting, facebooking their status, youtubing. They HAVE to be the first to tell EVERYONE.

It's really pathetic. But that's what happens when you depersonalize everything. Nothing is private, nothing is considered intimate, or raises any concern or ire anymore.

We're living in a constant state of unconditional beige.

Wonder how those freaks would love it if they have a heart attack and the bystanders are busy tweeting away. Fools

I just heard about this today, too...how insane! My aunt recently relayed a story to me about being in a Mexican restaurant and a man sitting near her started choking on his burrito...she jumped up, ran over and gave him the heimlich maneuver while everyone else sat there, completely un-phased. Unbelievable!

It would be ironic to see a guy who tweeted Bill Nye's fainting spell, then yelling at a crowd of people when it happened to him. I don't know what this is though.

Is it that the internet separates us from reality?
Is it that reality isn't real enough?
Do most people expect others to handle things while they stand idly by capturing things for youtube?

Then there's the other thing. There's the thing of instant celebrity. Be the first to capture a cool video and you'll get a million hits, "Hey look, there's that Nye guy dying. This is going to get me tons of hits on my youtube. Hey, get in the picture. Yeah, yeah, pose or something. That's good. Cool. I got the shot. Let's go."

Wow. How sad.

I don't have Facebook or Tweeter. I opened up a My Space account a couple of years ago and never logged back on. People at work want to "befriend" me but I had no idea what that meant until a year ago.

I didn't get a cell phone until a couple of years ago. But it seems like some people out there can't stop texting. Some of my younger friends only communicate via text messages and it's very annoying.

It seems like the more we advance, the more backward we become.

Beck was fast but his crew was slow.

I'm passing out.
