Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Ahmed Ghailani was found not guilty on all but one charge Wednesday by a civilian jury in New York, in a case with ramifications for President Obama's policy toward Guantanamo and civilian trials for terror suspects.
Ghailani was acquitted in federal court on 224 murder charges in connection with the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
The acquittal is seen as a major blow to the U.S. government, as Ghailani was the first former Gitmo detainee to be tried in a civilian courtroom.
Convicted of one charge of conspiracy to blow up a government building.
Ah gawds! Can this get any worse for the worst president in our history?
Because these trials are fair trials and not show trials where the outcome is predetermined!
That's vile, creepy right wing ideology for you! They are against fair trials now.
It was a civilian jury that heard the evidence........but that's not good enough for haters.....they really just want to skip the trial and go straight to the death penalty.
What a shining example of America they are setting!
Rep. Pete King (R-LI), who has been a staunch opponent of civilian trials for terrorism suspects, called the mixed verdict "a disgraceful miscarriage of justice."
"It shows how totally wrong the Obama administration is to bring a case like this to civilian court," he said.
"If this had been before a military tribunal, evidence that was blocked in this case would have been admissable," King said.
Acquitted of 224 counts of murder.
Thanks to the Left, who sympathizes with terrorists, we have this miscarriage of justice.
This is exactly what those opposed to civilian trials were afraid of - you can't air classified and top secret information in public and this is an excellent of example of just how wrong, how bad, how disastrous the bunch of far leftist is the WH truly are.

What a load of absolute steaming BS! Blah, blah blah, the left this and the left that. The real truth is the right flat out LIES and your inane statement is a perfect example!

Please do give us your expert legal opinion of just which statutes suggest we try accused civilians in anything but civialian courts. And BTW, you may as well tell us all about your legal qualifications at the same time.
Remember now, this was the obama/holder test case that would prove to a skeptical nation that yes indeedy, we CAN try terrorists in civilian court and get wonderful results.
A federal judge barred prosecutors from using a key witness in the trial of a Tanzanian man in the bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa because the witness's identity was discovered through questionable interrogation techniques used in secret CIA custody.
At a hearing last week, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Farbiarz said Mr. Abebe was a “giant” witness for the government and directly linked Mr. Ghailani to the explosives used in the attack.
A murderer of hundreds in a terrorist attack walks because a judge deemed the intelligence gained from the interrogation techniques used was "too much".
Acquitted on 280 counts. Now THIS should be an impeachable offense.
Help me out here Sanrene .... are you objecting to the fact that this individual received a fair trial? Are you objecting to the fact that a federal jury found him not guilty of those charges? Are you objecting to the fact that information obtained from torture is inadmissable?
For my part, I am kind of proud to be a citizen of a country that does believe in giving people a fair trial.
You are clearly more favorable to the North Korean model of justice.
Ha...ha! "But the military commissions have convicted three people since 9/11, so that’s something."
