and what will you say if someone who isn't groped blows up a plane?
How many terrorists were caught in the US trying to board with bombs ?
This groping is in response to LAST YEAR's underwear bomber..the guy whose father turned him in, the guy who was on the No Fly list, the guy who boarded a plane in Amsterdam.
The TSA/DHS is in reaction mode..not proactive mode.
Were you worried since last Christmas and now are relieved because of the new pat down/naked scanning ? Did you not fly all year because of the underwear bomber but now feel safe enough to fly ?
And if you are keeping up with current events..the bombs are not even on people anymore...the last was found in toner cartridges.

What would you say if everyone was groped and scanned but cargo isn't being as diligently checked? What would you say if everyone was groped and scanned but these measures cannot track an explosive device hidden in someone's body? Those of you who support this violation of our 4th Amendment rights are feeling a false sense of security at these measures especially considering the fact that not EVERYONE is being subjected to these unreasonable searches.

I believe that someone can smuggle something on a plane by hiding something inside themselves. If they're going to die anyway they won't care if something is implanted.
I'm not defending the policy. I'm saying people who want to villify the government will do so at any opportunity whether the policy is bad (like this one) or good. They will villify if there is action or inaction, depending on what makes it easy to villify.
What's known is this, someone smuggles explosives in their underwear. Its known to work as a strategy. If the TSA does nothing and an attack is pulled off, then what will the critics say? Yes it is a reactionary policy, but what will people say if nothing is done? What will people say if nothing is done and a terrorist is successful?
again I'll reiterate I don't like the policy and if I didn't have in-laws 2000 miles away I'd never fly. I'll also reiterate that we should find alternative modes of transportation and a means to make them as appealing (or close to as appealing) as the speed of an airplane.

Who is to say that the terrorists won't start using the other modes of transportation to carry out their attacks? Where is the security for Amtrak, Greyhound and other mass transit? I'm sorry but it ain't about vilifying government but about an invasion of our 4th Amendment rights especially when the cargo that's loaded on our planes is not subjected to rigorous searches! We are all going to be subjected to the same type of search as criminals in the jails just for the "crime" of wanting to board an airplane! There is even some talking about Muslim women being exempt due to religious modesty concerns so how "safe" are we with these new procedures? Sorry but this travel fan is not planning to fly until this nonsense is done away with! Many other airplane travelers will also forgo flying so the airline industry had better start lobbying for the end of this nonsense or else more folks are going to face unemployment.

The scanners would not have caught that due to the material of the bomb..thin plastique. BUT..the TSA says a pat down would have caught it.
I wonder when Amsterdam will start hiring TSA folks ?
You still have the problem of terrorists getting on planes outside of the US and coming here..that was the case of the underwear bomber.

I would say he was probably one of the many who was not subjected to the new search/scan...because not everyone gets searched or scanned by the new methods.
Feel safe knowing only some people are searched?
Feel safe knowing most cargo is NEVER searched or scanned?

It's even simplier than that. He was on OUR no-fly list. He was run through the Eruopean list. But we do not share information with their network. So they did what they always do and put the underwear bomber on the plane having passed him because they were never given the information to not to.

And that's why DHS was formed..because information was not shared.
I guess we need yet another dept formed employing thousands so that information will be shared ?
