Always seemed weird to me.
Did you just pull that 85% stat out of the air? I know for a fact that 10% of all Americans work for some sector of our government, be it either city, state, county or Federal--Go ahead and look it up if you want--That would leave only 5% left to be employed by large corporations. And since WalMart employs about 1.4 million people, your 85% stat is looking to be about as accurate as Paris Hilton taking a Trig exam.
I'm neither a liberal nor a hippie, but I have a huge problem with the way large corporations pay K Street lobbyists millions of dollars to influence and sway congress in order to pass legislation so as to meet their private agendas, often at the expense of small business owners.
But I'm not naive either; I realize that us consumers must accept some of the responsibility for the incredible power companies like WalMart wield these days. We demand low prices and a wide selection of goods, as well as convenience and no-questions-asked return policies. Many of us won't patronize a local merchant if his prices are even, say, 10% higher than WalMarts. We pay good lipservice to the old "support your local business" adage, but when it comes time to ante up at the checkout counter we find ourselves at one of those big box stores.

+10. They are even starting to cut back on matching contributions on 401K's now, so you are going to be lucky if you even have a nest egg when you retire. Actually, let me correct myself, if you can actually afford to retire.

They call it corporatism or fascism...

Default Opinions of Corporate America

Coporate influence in politics is the #1 reason America has been declining the past 20 years.

Giant Corporations are such nice folks....

Well put and true.

From Dr. Britt's 14 points of Fascism(the Repugs ideal):

""""9. Power of corporations protected

Although the personal life of ordinary citizens was under strict control, the ability of large corporations to operate in relative freedom was not compromised. The ruling elite saw the corporate structure as a way to not only ensure military production (in developed states), but also as an additional means of social control. Members of the economic elite were often pampered by the political elite to ensure a continued mutuality of interests, especially in the repression of “have-not” citizens."""""

This really holds true in regard to the latest handoff from our collective pockets to the banksters who ate our lunch and then gave themselves a great big tip.

What about all the people who bought a house they couldn't afford? Banks fault for lending money? What brought those banks down? Default loans. Yes, the banks went too far, but the borrower had their head up their _____.

People are ALWAYS look'n to blame someone else for their ignorant/stupid mistakes.

All this knowledge on the net, yet people are still too lazy to investigate/learn.

Oh, well. Make's people feel all warm and fuzzy when they can lay the blame on someone else.
