cutting the federal budget by 90% would shutdown the economy. Basically I favor simplifying the tax code to elminate deductions and broaden the tax base while lowering.Sooner or later it is coming and the pain will just increase with time.

How would reducing taxes and government by 90% shutdown the economy?
The problem with the "Tax code" is that it is made complex to hide an important fact - it's based on deception.
Income taxes aren't taxes on income but upon a revenue taxable activity, of which the tax is imposed. The question few ask: what made "all labor" into a revenue taxable activity?
What changed the 'right to life' and the harmless support of that right into a privilege?
Look into the legislative history and you will find the answer.
Here's an anecdote:
All the people I personally know who were hassled by the Eye Are Us had two things in common: (a) SSN and (b) interest bearing bank account.
All the people I know who were NOT hassled, didn't.
In case you were unaware, there is no law compelling all Americans to enroll into SocSec. It is entirely voluntary.
Frankly, if 51% of American "volunteered out" of FICA / Socialist InSecurity, it would probably be enough to collapse the current regime.
You're missing half of the puzzle. The Fed buget is comprised of discretionary and mandatory spending. BOTH would have to be cut in order for us to reduce our deficit. The Mandatory side of spending is a part of the budget that is NOT controlled. It is simply on "auto pilot" and the cost of it balloons as more people apply for benefits like through Medicare, Medicaid and Soc Insecurity.

As stated before, all the "Socialist" budget items are gone... which includes income transfers, entitlements, and Medicare, Medicaid, etc, etc..
One nice thing would be to remove earning caps off of SS so recipients still working could continue to pay even more into the system.
Oh Yeah, and better support themselves without penalty too.
No more pension after one term would help.
Could we save money if all of Congress was required to be enrolled in ObamaCare?
At that point, you might as well just eliminate the entire government and disband the nation.
Whoa - don't throw out the baby with the bath water.
The specific powers delegated to Congress, in Article 1, Section 8, aren't that bad.
It's the "other powers" that Congress has accumulated, that are questionable.
Members of Congress are not eligible for a pension until they reach the age of 50, but only if they've completed 20 years of service. Members are eligible at any age after completing 25 years of service or after they reach the age of 62. Please also note that Members of Congress have to serve at least 5 years to even receive a pension.
In other words, a one-term Senator could receive a pension, after that person reached 62. No Representative, regardless of age, could qualify for a pension without serving 3 terms ... unless that person was (1) over 62, and (2) pulled a Palin and quit halfway through their third term - that would give them the 5 years of service needed to qualify for a pension.
2. See: Section 1312 - Consumer Choice - of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590)
(d) MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IN THE EXCHANGE.
(i) REQUIREMENT. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are
(I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or
(II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).
Members of Congress and their staffs are the only groups specifically mandated by the Act to switch from their current health insurance plan (the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program) to the choice of plans to be offered through an Exchange.
