Then why not stop revenue sharing entirely? Let the states do their own tax collecting.

But that would reduce the power of the feds.. so it will never happen.

The predominance of the Federal government is one problem that must be addressed. Under the original terms, the federal government was to be the servant of the states united. It was the means to strengthen the union and prevent rivalries from escalating.

Unfortunately, the remedy is not found in the ballot. The bulk of the federal government's power is from "voluntary" participation in FICA / Socialist InSecurity.

When 51% of Americans withdraw from FICA, that day the government will implode.

The Congress has been raiding Social Security for decades and it is still solvent until 2036, by that time the Boomers will be gone. If you get rid of it, what will they raid?

Solvent?
I doubt it.

Congress is borrowing MORE ($1645 B) than it pays in debt service ($206 B).
That's what Bernie Madoff went to prison for doing in the private sector.
When investors finally realize that the chance of getting their principal back is nil, they will desist.

And if you carefully read FICA, you will find that there is no guarantee of entitlements to the participant. They are entirely at the discretion of Congress - that collection of honorable men of integrity who wouldn't lie, cheat or steal from our g'g'g'grandchildren in order to further their own wealth, power or prestige.

Emily, how about we cut that down to three days per year?

bingo!

let me remind everyone that madoff had been reported to the SEC many times over the years and the SEC turned a BLIND EYE to the fraud, on purpose. eliot spitzer was a madoff investor, for goodness sake.

i think americans get it.
