most people do not get section 8 since the wait is too long. when i was single parent, i just never considered it since the wait wasn't worth it and it was in bad areas.
food stamps depend on income and you have to be very poor. medicaid, you have to be very poor and all those other assistance mentioned, it takes too much jumping through hoops. i don't think it's worth it or that most people subscribe to all of them, only some do or can.
It wasn’t too long for Obama’s aunt. She has been living illegally in this country for years in subsidized housing. And, she receives food stamps and disability.
Quote:
Onyango came to the U.S. from Kenya in 2000 and was denied asylum by an immigration judge in 2004.
She stayed in the country illegally, living in Boston public housing, where she remains to this day. She also currently receives $700 per month in disability benefits.

wow, she was fortunate. somebody must have helped her through the red tape because it is not easy to get these things. it's easy to get food stamps and medicaid if you are very poor but that's it but housing and disability, wow. definitely she was helped to navigate it.
but the food stamps and disability is not true, you can't get both at the same time or it's fraud.

If she's here illegally it's ALL fraud isn't it ?
She's not entitle to ANY of those benefits.
She had more than a helping hand.
I agree! These are problems that need to be looked at, but this data doesn't serve any purpose beyond political propaganda. It would be wonderful if someone could actually do this right because we definitely have a lot of flaws in our system.
What should be more telling, is that it takes an income of $60k to escape poverty.
Only the math challenged would find any validity to this absurd argument.
In kind payments, NSLP, Medicaid and CHIP, Rent Subsidies and LIHEAP, can not be included in any estimate of disposable income. That is nonsense.
After tax income of the family of four making $14,500 is $17,570 in disposable income*
After tax income of the family of four making $60,000 is $43,966 in disposable income**
If we assume, for the moment, that the inkind subsidies reflect equal expenses for both families totaling $29,807 per annum, the family of four making $60,000 would still have a disposable income of $14,159, while the family of four making 14,500 without those inkind subsidies would have a negative disposable income of -$12,237!
*income minus taxes plus EITC
*income minus taxes
Now what did was that saying about lies, damned lies and statistics? The OP's link appears to be a case of all three.
- but can't help noticing that our 60K guy isn't getting a red dime in employer benefits. Not saying it couldn't happen, but...
Some do; some don't. Anyone who gets employer-provided health insurance will now have the cost of such listed on their W-2 (the IRS Wage and Tax Statement - I felt I needed to clarify as a certain lib C-D member had no clue what a W-2 was and assumed it was a right-wing thing ).
Not true. Many low-income earners receive taxpayer-funded benefits.
you are not informed, informedconsent. yes, it is unusual. why do you spread this propaganda? there is no way people are recieving 6000 dollars in food stamps. anyways, food is so plentiful in america, it's not even a big deal. that's why it's an easy giveaway. people get 100 dollars per person. if one is making barely enough to even cover basic expenses, the food stamps are cut off. that means someone making 600 dollars a month is cut off from food stamps.
people also receive help with housing subsidies based on their income. most housing programs are based on low-income housing, not free housing. that's called the projects and most people don't want to live in them.
Actually I would think the opposite.
That these entitlements cannot go away and will just increase as prices increase and take on more people as their standard of living falls.
That was the shocker to me...that we cannot cut them loose.
It will only get worse..they will need more government money to survive and more people will be dropping under that line and will start to require government money also to exist.
All while tax revenue continues to fall...
And it is a certainty that tax revenue will decrease if tax rates are raised. That happens every time. Historical fact. Pages 249 and 250, here: Economics - Google Books
This data would be a lot more useful if someone offered a concrete number of people who are actually using the system this way. I.E. how many people qualify for all government programs and are actually using them.
Why don't the liberals have that data? These programs are their babies. Are you telling us they have no idea how these programs are being cross-utilized and by whom?
