I pay income taxes and 7.65% of my income to a fake retirement fund, whose money I will never see again.

The current crop of Republican possible candidates are as on par, or worse than our current President.

Maybe you should try harder.
No one could be worse than the disaster in office right now.

The last idiot elected to office was worse. He turned an economic surplus, and created the largest deficit and the second worst economic issue this country has ever faced, all while starting two wars that seem to have no end, and intruded more into the personal lives of Americans, second only to Lincoln during the civil war.

Yeah, there is worse.

Yeah, there is worse.
I don't know - things were going pretty well until the democrats took over in 2007 - then it all went to pot.

You weren't living in the America I remember. The economic downturn started around 2004.

Enlighten your fellow posters. How do you support or gain support for your cause or party? How have you drawn interest for the support groups you are involved in? Politically, how do you affect change?
What do YOU do for the country?

I served in the United States Marine Corps and now I serve my country as a corrections officer helping keep violent and dangerous criminals off the street.

I think that the best thing we as Americans can do for the country is simply be involved, Form opinions and make your voice heard. Not only in the voting booth. People should get involved with there community from HOA's, city and county administrations and up to Congress and US Senate.
When we make this country by the people then we are making the founders dreams a reality.
We can not complain when our officials do things that we don't like if we don't tell them what we want as citizens.
We don't all have to get along and we must allow others to have there opinions, values and pursue there agendas. When we allow for debate between opposing views we are moving forward and bringing this Country closer to what the founders wanted the US to be. When we remain silent then we fail as Americans

This thread was so nice before it got political.

Well, I pay my taxes, which apparently counts.
I did a year of Americorps VISTA service (And not because I didn't have a job. I actually left a job to do it.) because I wanted to give something back. I don't know how much good I actually did; however I didn't file to receive benefits like subsidized housing and food stamps even though I qualified at the time because I lived with my fiance who supported me. (A few people are actually supported by other people but still sign up for government benefits. I thought that was so tacky. Though please don't take that to mean most VISTAs do that.)
I vote.
I've recently taken up writing to my congresspeople.
I am the awesome sister to a member of our Air Force! (Okay, I can't really take credit for him. )
