U.S. Rep. John Conyers says he's sorry, will repay government for son's use of congressional vehicle (http://www.freep.com/article/20101201/NEWS06/12010378/1318/Conyers-apologizes-will-repay-government-for-sons-car-use - broken link)

On Tuesday, Conyers' father, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., said in a statement that his son used his government-provided vehicle without permission. He pledged to "make restitution to the treasury for any nonofficial use."
What does that mean? That he'll throw some gas money and a couple days car rental into the pot?
Conyers was previously on the ethics hot seat back in 2006 for making staffers do his personal bidding.
He also bs'ed his way out the investigation by invoking the same "make restitution" escape clause.
Sorry, not good enough.
I don't understand what you're talking about (or what we're arguing about).
You stated You're clearly insinuation that a fraud (an illegal act) occurred. I simply stated that if someone committed a fraud - whether it be counterfeiting tickets, stealing and then giving them away, stealing and then selling them, whatever - it makes no sense to bring it to the attention of the police.
I said this in an attempt to argue that most likely a fraud was not committed (contrary to what you insinuated), and that these tickets were legitimately in the congressman's son's possession. The further details you provided seem to support what I said.
No I didnt.. I said that if someone had $26K in concert tickets sitting in their vehicle, that would be rather suspicious... Would you not agree? Even if the tickets were $50 a pop thats 520 tickets.. You dont think these people new 520 people that would all go to the same concert do you?
My response was to

You might be mr popularity, but I dont know 520 individuals to attend a concert. I might know 26 people that would like 4 concert tickets each for 20 different concerts, but I clearly dont know 520 people.. to give everyone 1 ticket to..
Its basic math, there was no insinuation of a crime, I stated that they were most likely spread out just like a criminal would spread them out.. Turns out I was wrong, they werent spread out, it was a reasonable explanation that they were giving them away (which probably means there were thousands of tickets), but never did I say they were committing fraud, just that if they were it wouldnt have been ONE concert..
Bringing out the race card. The only mention of blacks is the number of Congressional Black Caucus members who have recently been involved in unethical scandals. Do you deny that??
Nope, nothing fishy about this story. Especially the part about there being $26K in concert tickets stolen.
Yet another Congressional Black Caucus member caught up in a scandal. How many does that make in the last year??

I guess now the taxpayers are funding extravagant vehicles so sonny boy can have a cool ride.

OMG, only a racist would start a thread like this one! How dare you point out that John Conyers is a member of the CBC. Next you'll be writing that he is a Democrat and member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus too. You, you, bigoted, right wingnut anti-Socialist! Yeah, that's it.
<sarc.>
First thing suprascooby did was mention the Congressional Black Caucus. Second thing he did was try to tie him in with Charlie Rangel.
Third thing he did was accuse me of playing the "race card" when I pointed this out.
You guys really have to do better........
Too bad you don't have the attitude that Conyers, Rangel and the Black Caucus need to do better.
I guess I have my answer as to who votes for these people.

How do you have any indication whatsoever of what my attitude is toward any of these guys? What does the Black Caucus have to do with this? Do you enjoy pushing yourself further down into the rhetorical quicksand?
