Seems like an easy solution. Take one for the team and ****. What do the Democrats have to gain by stalling? Make the tax cuts permanent and they could move on to their favorite issues like gays in the military and the dream act.
Bascailly because they are tied to the loaer income vote and raising taxes on tehm is always unpopular. They are already facing cutting entitlements sonn like it or not.I the end they would rather facer taxes raised on everybody and blame it on republicans. They know that the taxes raised will be passed on indirtectly but people will not notice it really.
Because they want to appeal to the populists who feel that they deserve tax cuts, but nobody else does. It's a symbolic maneuver as they try to create a political football for their re-election campaigns.
They've done a miraculous job of convincing the "middle class" that those of us who are successful don't "pay our fair share", even though the top 5% of earners in this country pay something like 65% of all the taxes in the country.
It's the philosophy that the populist section of society wants every amenity under the sun, but they don't feel they should have to chip in for it.
You'll note that their philosophy is "the country is broke, we should eliminate the tax cuts for the rich". But the second you bring up the counterproposal of "well, if you're going to eliminate tax cuts for the rich, we should just get rid of all the tax cuts", all of a sudden it's a whole other animal and that's just completely unacceptable.
Oh please. Don't sound all populist with your title. The GOP wants tax cuts for the rich, and if they could get away with it, only for the rich.
The middle class can go to hell as far as the GOP is concerned.
Well said
The tax cuts have been active for 10 years and next to the wars was the biggest cause to the economic collapse. Tax cuts for the rich was an epic failure and there is absolutely no reason to keep rewarding the wealthy when they didn't hold up their end of the deal by creating jobs and helping the economy.

Democrats, party of no, Democrats, party of taxing, Democrats, party of Fascism, Democrats, party of Communism, Democrats, party of theft, Democrats, party of reducing the middle class to expand poverty.

One proof that you are wrong.. It was the GOP that MADE and PASSED the tax cuts for ALL, not just the rich.. If what you said was true, then only the rich would have gotten them 10 years ago when the GOP had total control.

They will. And the GOP will agree to a "temporary" tax cut for the rich (whatever the hell that means), putting it off until just before the 2012 election when they'll get what they want because even the Democrats won't oppose that just before their re-election.
