It took a guy to do this? House Speaker-elect John Boehner orders a change to benefit just 71 members | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

Quote:
The nearly six dozen female members of the incoming House of Representatives will have a new restroom just as close to the chamber's floor as their male colleagues.

Until now female members have had to traipse much farther than male colleagues to find restroom facilities, even during these past four years of leadership under the country's first female speaker.
This is amazing, considering how many times pelosi and the dems got up on the House floor to rail about unequal treatment for women. We can just imagine the wailing that would take place if the dems found out a private or public sector facility was not up to snuff in equality for bodily functions. Wait! We don't have to imagine;

I give you, The Potty Parity Act;

'Potty Parity Act' seeks restroom equality in federal buildings - washingtonpost.com

Quote:
Lawmakers concerned about a shortage of women's restrooms in federal buildings introduced the "Potty Parity Act" on Thursday to ensure equal access for men and women in future federal buildings and in facilities leased by the government.
One would have thought in the 4 tortuous years of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, she would have seen to the change Speaker Boehner, a male, will be making to benefit female members.

I've been in the House chamber and in the corridor's around it and can't help but wonder just how much it will cost to convert some of that space into a women's rest room.

No, I'm not questioning the necessity of it, just wondering how the GOP leadership will pay for it. After all, they were elected to rein in government spending...right? Under the "Pay/Go" philosophy, what will they cut from the federal budget to find the money for this?

Lemme guess...nothing.

Cutting government spending at this point is economic folly. Both sides know this but apparently the vox populli are just as ignorant as ever.

That is the ONLY solution.

You must realize that the current budget numbers are unsustainable. We cannot continue to spend what we don't have. Unless you drastically cut spending, government will continue to just grow and grow and grow.

Pay/Go???? Was that intentional?

It so works.

What a waste of money. "Oh hey, we're not going to approve anymore spending... except for stuff we want for us. Then we'll spend all the money in the world."

Waste of money? Let's see, making things a bit more FAIR and convenient for the female staff is a waste of money but everything else they steal from the taxpayer to just blow on some pet project isn't? Get a life people. Maybe they should cut their salaries to pay for it. They aren't supposed to be making more than our soldiers anyway.

If it wasn't "fair and convenient," I would bet Pelosi would've done something about it. Of course maybe she had her own private room...

Bottomline is if you have been in that building, adding a new restroom is not a cheap nor easy change to do. Unless they are going to retrofit an exisiting men's restroom. That would be "truly fair."

And you have the salary issue wrong. Soldiers can not make more than members of Congress.
