Even though Desi is pretty much white, one reason Cubans like him even have a problem with identifying with Europe (or being identified with Europe) is that their culture is very much mulatto. Listen to the music and look at the imagery of Desi's band, and what you see is very, very African. Cubans, from the whitest white to the blackest black (and even the Chinese), have a culture that is in every way a fusion of black and white, of Spain (and France) and West Africa. Anyone from this type of culture, no matter what they look like, often are not seen as white. Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other cultures are equally mixed.

Another opinion is if the hispanic person had at least 1 or 2 grandparents that had colored eyes or light(er) hair they could be considered white. This way they have those recessive genes that are considered white.

Just my opinions. Don't mean to offend.
No offense taken. However, I'm an obviously black Cuban. But I fit the above description - I have lots of ancestors who were not Africans, but nobody's ever going to call me or my nappy blond-haired, blue-eyed Cuban American child white. Latinos are very mixed, and few of us are white, no matter how much we want to aspire to it.

Just one question....

I am white hispanic (Venezuelan and Italian descendant) and my wife and two kids are Venezuelan and German descendant, also white...

As I might be getting a job offer in the U.S., the big question is, having lived there about 30 years ago (Texas) and lived under north american customs (they way I think it should be), would me and my family be welcomed, gettng there legally and willing to live the american way, not the LATINO way?

My kids (10 and 12) and wife are learning english, as I have told them that it was compulsory and not negotiable.. Want to live in U.S. we live their way... It worked for me....

WOuld I have any trouble thinking that way? Any places you could recommend???
