Well, judging on how so many of the "independents" who now align with the Tea Party are pretty devout libertarians, a fair number of them seem to think this is a reasonably good idea; after all, they believe the private sector always trumps public, so why wouldn't they want to rally behind someone who made a killing in the private sector?

Well you nailed it......most "Independents" aligned with the tea party are Libertarian, that is why they are aligned with the tea party! Of course there are those other "independents" who are really just middle of the road moderates who get squeamish about any hint of extremism to either side. They are the ones bemoaning the Republican Party has gone to far right......both parties need them to win but on their own they can and will never win anything.
