After passing the house yesterday, the bill to extend tax cuts for only those making $250,000 a year or less hits the senate. Though expected to be instantly filibustered by the republicans, the democrats are being the bigger people and have reached across the isle with a second proposal that would extend the tax cuts to everyone making under $1,000,000 a year, otherwise 99.5% of americans. The ball now is in the republican's court and if they filibuster the democratic compromise, this will truly show the right are out to only support one group of people, the wealthiest of the wealthy.

I'd be okay with the $1M alternative. The $250K figure is simply too low.

It isn't really tax cuts is it? It is just the extension of the tax rates we have been paying for the last 6 years or so.

I am o.k. with letting them all expire.

The current tax rate has been steady for 10 years. Therefore we are not discussing cuts but a tax hike to all or certain sectors of the population. If you think tax rates should be raised please feel free to turn over all of your personal wealth to the government today. You have the freedom to do so but I doubt you have the conviction.

A $1 million cap for tax cuts is within acceptable parameters.

Actually we are. The Bush tax rate bill is to expire at the end of the month. The argument on both sides is signing new tax cut bills and which financial demographics will return to the former tax rates as stated in Bush's bill.

I did turn over some of my wealth to the government today. I went to the local mom and pop hardware store to get a few things for the house. I paid sales tax which benefits the government, as well as giving income to a small business which promotes jobs, expansion, competition in the market as well as promoting business in the community.

Tempest could it be that we finally agree on something?
LOL I try to shop only at mom and pop stores. By the way I also agree with this latest Bill it is a fair compromise.

We all pay sales tax. If you want an Obama tax hike mail in 55% of your income directly to the federal government instead of forcing others to do so.

I too support my local "Mom & Pop" stores. However, that was not the topic. Nice deflection.
