Many people are excited to hear that the Black farmers are finally receiving justice due to the Senate passing legislation funding a settlement for discrimination against Black farmers. However, the “devil is in the details” and the enemy is at work to mix poison with honey to ensnare the unaware. “There's no question. The bar is much higher,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), a CBC member and chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. The legislation to be sent to the president would provide $4.55 billion to settle longstanding discrimination claims with the Department of Agriculture from Black and Native American farmers.

Then there is this interesting take on the subject: Volume 10

The best part of this one was that those farmers who were supposed to be helped numbered about 12,000 and already 84,000 of them have been paid. It is nothing but reparations and like so many things like it is being done through the back door.
Oh lord...here we go with the "everybody can get some money but NOT the black folks" thread.
This is about fraud and the illegitimate use of taxpayer dollars. Those with legitimate claims should be compensated.
Do you support the use of the Pickford Act to redistribute taxpayer dollars to those who do not have legitimate farming claims against the USDA in regard to their loans and/or loan applications?
This is outrageous - a true case of reparations and redistribution of wealth - only the beginning if Obama has his way. A brutal rape of the taxpayers.
The fraud involved is astronomical and this sets the stage for even more "settlements".
Of course the msm isn't covering this - they're only interested when whites or conservatives are the target.
I hope the new congress can initiate a comprehensive investigation so the true extent of the fraud is made known.
Yea, but white farmers have been gaming the system for years to the tune of billions and the media doesn't point that out either, so it can't be that.
The black farmers that were discriminated against are truly due their claims. No argument there!
However Mike Espy, a former member of Congress AND former Secretary of Agriculture suing on behalf of the thousands of claimants is gaming the system. He's actively seeking out anyone he can to file a claim so as to make money for himself and the claimant.
His own words:
Quote:
“You are involved in the second coming of the Pigford lawsuit,” Espy said. “I hope to have all of you as clients come January.”
“This is your 40 acres and a mule,” Espy said. “We’re already at 15,000 clients and we’re going to get more.”
To ignore this issue is wrong. Any farmer (white or black) or lawyer gaming the system is in the wrong. It is rather dumb to state 'they did it, so I can too'. Wrong is wrong. This is something we all need to stand against.

How does this solve the resentment caused the civil war, from both sides of the race card?
