Prescription drugs that are considered safe kill an estimated 200,000 Americans a year, and investigative reporters Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele have exposed a massive loophole that could help explain why. Some 6,485 clinical trials were conducted abroad in 2008—more than 20 times as many as in 1990—and the FDA has been declaring drugs safe based on foreign trials that are almost completely free from regulation or oversight, a detailed investigation published in Vanity Fair finds.

Medical errors kill around 100k a year.

Illegal drugs are the leading cause of death, formally recorded as 'poisoning'. Poisoning has surpassed death by traffic accidents.

Don't forget The Big Thee kills more people with their cars and generates many more debilitaed survivors.

US approved drugs go though rigorous scrutiny.

Patient populations are chosen for high occurrence of the disease entity your drug will be approved to mitigate or cure.

Government regs require patient populations to be geographically diverse to ensure elimination of regional bias which may have an environmental component.

Case report forms are translated forward and back by certified translators to capture local language nuance.

Patients are given and sign informed consent. A major breach if not performed. Each local doc or investigator receives an, investigators' brochure' which discloses all posible adverse effects, contraindicated meds and summary of all known information regarding the investigative drug.

Better to test on people than animals. At least the people can give consent to be treated like a lab rat.
