GOP fillibusters Health Care Bill for 9/11 responders... Will they get one More Republican to vote in favor?...

9/11 Health Bill Headed to a Senate Vote - WSJ.com

U.S. Senators are scheduled to take a key vote Wednesday on a long-stalled bill to provide health care and financial compensation to sick Ground Zero workers.

On Tuesday, New York's senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer made 11th-hour appeals as they tried to find one more Republican senator to support the measure, which would likely give them the votes necessary to overcome a filibuster.

Have you read this bill? MAYBE you should read it in it's entirety, before complaining that people aren't just 'signing off" on it! As it's written not only would I not sign it, nor would if i was a first responder want it, in the form it is currently in.

OP, I'd be very curious to know what's so wrong in the Bill as well.

The link did not say the Republicans won't sign off on the bill. It states they won't sign off on the bill UNTIL they get what they want out of the tax bill. It's called fillibustering. So, no battle of ethics for them.

How can a party with no majority power anywhere block anything? Democrats have and have had the power to do whatever they want, why do they lack the spine needed to pass their legislation?

If you read the excerpt you'll see that the Republicans are fillibustering the bill...

I dont think I've ever met anyone who's missed the boat more times all in one posting..

Wait.. The Senate is scheduled to take a key vote Wednesday on a LONG STALLED BILL.. And then you post a thread about how Republicans vote to block the very bill they are scheduled to take a vote on Tell me why its been long stalled? Democrats had 100% control of congress

Then you tell me they are trying to find "one more Republican Senator" to support the bill, to over come a filibuster, but if the vote is scheduled, there isnt a filibuster

And then you start talking about how they cant find a Republican voter to vote yes, and then you claim this is blocking the bill. FAIL.. its not supporting the bill. Blocking the bill and voting no is not the same thing

If they were filibustering the bill, it wouldnt be up for a vote.. What your link says is they are looking for a FIRM COMMITTMENT, not wanting to take the bill to the floor to watch it fail.. Thats not a filibuster. This must be your favorite word to use lately..

In addition if you read your own link it says nothing about Republicans blocking the bill, it said they wouldnt support it until the tax question has been answered..

No they aren't, they're threatening to filibuster which the Democrats aren't willing to force them to do because they're spineless fools. The Democrats don't need a single Rep. vote to do anything right now, they simply aren't brave enough to stand up and do what they want to because they're scared of how it will affect their chances of getting reelected.

As a liberal I'm not for this bill either.

1) It's 7 Billion Dollars for Christ's sake.
2) Why should 9/11 responders be treated differently than soldiers?
3) The scientific evidence supporting their special health problems is not convincing.
4) The are already covered under private/employer health plans and workman's compensation.
