Would it not be better if they just took the money they are putting into unemployment checks and created jobs? Also, what I see is that the unemployment rate is high because you are carrying a total of people laid off over 2 years where it used to be 6 months or maybe a year. I have noticed that the states that have lower paying jobs (and lower cost of living) have much lower unemployment rates. How many years will it be before the jobs return? Those jobs are gone and new businesses must be created. Quickly, we are becoming a third world country. Something has to give.

Not really. There have been Third World countries for as long as there has been a world. Most of them still are Third World countries. AFAIK, however, there has not been a First World power that after decades of world dominance ceded its place at the head of the pack and joined the rabble. BTW, the jobs will never return. Ever. This is what it is like year after year in a Third World country. Get used to it. Or not.

The jobs we have lost will never return, get over it and distrust ANY politician who says otherwise. get over it

As far as taking unemployment money and use it to create jobs, what jobs? Minimum wage jobs with no benefits? Service jobs with no future? Construction (union) jobs that want 30% of your money for union dues?

So you go back to work in your Union cocoon manufacturing *stuff*. Only problem is the *stuff* being built in other parts of the world many times cheaper and the quality of their product has gotten quite a bit better over the years. Whose product will the average American consumer buy?

You can support "Buy American" as long as you can afford it and after you loose your job? Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian and Laotian products look pretty good.

You can still get manufacturing jobs, probably a buck a day, no medical insurance, no federal board to protect your workspace.

Who exactly do you want to create jobs? It is not the government's job to create jobs.
Although I understand it when unemployed people want jobs again, I always find it a bit odd when people protest carrying banners asking politicians to create jobs.

How do you create or invent jobs? You have to have a product, or a thing, or a service that can be manufactured or performed. If you don't have that, which we seem to have lost, you can just make it so.

Here's an idea...
1. We should end unemployment benefits
2. Contact those unemployed, and have them meet at their neighborhood 7-11
3. Bring the unemployed (and some ICE agents, and police) to construction sites.
4. Arrest, deport, or validate current construction workers. Those few who check out can stay. Replace each illegal immigrant with an unemployed person.

That is how you kill 2 birds with 1 stone

Tell ya what, when you figure this dilema out, clue us all in on it. Our Government elected, cannot even figure this out. Mfg is not what it use to be anymore, everything is made overseas, or companies are moving overseas, for lower overhead. Cheaper all the way around, to just move companies overseas, but are the products being made, as good as MADE IN AMERICA, probably not, which is why when you do buy anything today with made in America stickers, the cost is much more, but the quality so much better, mostly furniture. Toys made in China, are some of the biggest sellers, but made so cheaply, and some toys so unsafe.

Boils down to save a buck, but lower your standard of putting out quality products. Very hard these days to find anything with made IN AMERICA any more, and also a bit sad.

Would be better if someone had the answers to all of these questions, but sadly, appears that we don't.

What is your tangent about on construction workers. This makes no sense. Construction is way down. Business is NOT booming. This is just stupid.

Well, there's never been a society with as much wealth and power as America, so every comparison is going to debatable, but world powers and empires that have fallen to dust? There's hundreds of them from Rome, Ethiopia, Persia, Mali, Kush, the Mongols, Turks, Khmer, Maya, Inca, Spanish, U.S.S.R. and dozens more.

The question is, has there even been a world power that hasn't fallen?
