The way to prevent cashiers from writing in a tip is to properly fill out the reciept and to fill in the total amount whether a tip was added or not. But I suppose writing in a big fat zero serves the same function.

I tip: the waiter/waitress, pizza delivery person, my hairdresser. That's it.

FYI: Most of the time, a few bucks or a $5 are put in the jar before the business even opens to "get the ball rolling".

I'm gonna agree with the OP on this one. EVERYONE seems to have their hands out these days.

I don't like tipping, either. When we tip employees who really need it, we support employers who obviously don't pay there employees adequately. Shouldn't be that way. And why tip those who don't need it anyway...

Why is tipping such an emotional issue? I was in a restaurant with a friend a few days ago. Service was aweful, so I wanted to leave zero tip. My friend looks at me like I just killed someone. She said ALWAYS give a tip. But why?! The waitress obviously had a bad attitude, and did her job poorly. What about this situation makes her deserve a tip?

The absolute WORST place to tip in my opinion, are clubs. It seems bartenders there have an extreme sense of entitlement coupled with a bad attitude. I love writing in zero's on the bartabs in those cases.

This reminds me to the ABSOLUTE worst place I hate people wanting tips: In the bathroom!! You go to a club/bar or even some nicer restaurants and there is some clown in there ready to hand you a towel or sell you something when you're simply trying to take a leak. Irri-ma-frickin'-tating !!

Then just don't do it. It's that simple.

But keep in mind that because of the tax structure on certain jobs, the employees that you stiff are being taxed on the money that you're keeping in your pocket.

Waitresses should contract out their services.

Over 50% of the Federal Government is made up of such.
